  • The Ace: Yugi proves to be this by finally beating Atem.
  • Batman Gambit: Yugi and Atem both set this up, Atem revealing that he had anticipated Yugi defeating the Egyptian God Cards and Yugi in turn anticipating that Atem might use a particular card and ensuring that he couldn't make that play.
  • The Bus Came Back: Para and Dox make their first appearances in the Japanese endingnote  ever since "Double Trouble Duel".
  • But Now I Must Go: Atem, to his friends' sadness, heads to the afterlife where he is reunited with the spirits of his Egyptian comrades.
  • Defeating the Undefeatable: Yugi defeating Atem, with his biggest obstacle being all three Egyptian God Cards at the Pharaoh's disposal.
  • Foreshadowing: Yugi in the dub mentions when one adventure ends another starts, foreshadowing Yu-Gi-Oh! GX.
  • I Am X, Son of Y:
    "I am the son of King Aknamkanon. My name is Atem!"
  • Lovely Angels: Mai and Vivian have become this in the Japanese ending, facing off against Para and Dox.
  • Mythology Gag: In the Japanese version's ending, Yugi's final words are the last words he said at the end of the manga (Atem's story is over, but Yugi's is just beginning).
  • Rule of Symbolism: Yugi reveals that he earlier sealed away Monster Reborn so that neither duelist could use it, describing his reasoning as a way of ensuring that both understood that nobody could come back to life after this duel.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Yugi has done this now and again without Atem's help, but proves this by actually defeating him.
  • "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue: The Japanese version concludes with showing what many of the characters are getting up to.
