Recap / Xiaolin Showdown Pandatown

Go To

The Xiaolin Monks hear about a crime spree in Hong Kong, with perpetrators using Shen Gong Wu. It turns out that Jack Spicer sold his Wu to PandaBubba, Hong Kong's kingpin of crime. Now PandaBubba seeks the rest of the Wu to strengthen his hold over the city.

Tropes

  • A Simple Plan: Jack sold his Shen Gong Wu to Panda Bubba, planning to steal them back with Monkey Staff. It failed because Jack left a "cheat sheet" detailing the Wu's powers in one of the Jet Bootsu, which led Panda Bubba to figuring out their powers.
  • An Aesop: It’s important to forgive your friends for their past mistakes.
  • Artistic License – History: Dojo comments that the part of Hong Kong they were visiting was the part 'Dashi wouldn't let him play in'. Seeing as the island was very sparsely populated until the 1800's, how a few thousand people had a 'bad' part of the island is a bit hard to fathom.
  • Dope Slap: Subverted. After learning that Jack Spicer basically traded almost all of his Shen Gong Wu to Panda Bubba for robot parts, Wuya tries to punch him. Being a ghost, her fists just go right through him.
  • Evil vs. Evil: Jack wants to steal his Wu back, but PandaBubba wants to use it for mundane crimes. They briefly team up, but PandaBubba turns on Jack the first chance he gets.
    • It briefly comes down to the two of them racing to the finish in the Showdown Trio, before Rai uses an Eye of Dashi-Wind Element combo to wipe them both out with a tidal wave and win the race.
  • Graceful Loser: Surprisingly, Wuya is this after the showdown. When Jack realizes he only has a small handful of Wu left now, he begins to complain of how he was ripped off again, only for Wuya to comfort him saying "What happens in Pandatown, stays in Pandatown".
  • I Surrender, Suckers: To rescue his friends, Raimundo allows himself to be captured with Dojo and several Shen Gong Wu in tow, while leaving fake Wu for PandaBubba's goons to find.
  • Once an Episode: The "Last Boat Afloat" Xiaolin Showdown Trio, pitting Raimundo against Jack and PandaBubba for the Longi Kite, with Rai's Eye of Dashi versus Jack's Tangle Web Comb versus PandaBubba's Fist of Tebigong; Rai wins after using an Eye of Dashi-Wind Element combo to wipe out Jack and PandaBubba's boats and surf to the finish on the last remaining piece of his own boat.
  • Plot Hole: The rules of the episode's Showdown inexplicably changed from "last boat afloat" to "first one to reach the gate" during the Showdown, because otherwise Raimundo should have lost when Pandabubba sunk his boat.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Raimundo's annoyed at the others making fun of his status as a non-apprentice and the circumstances surrounding it, but puts up with it—however, when they end up choosing to trust Jack (the villain they fight on a regular basis) over him, Raimundo absolutely loses it and ends up beating up one of PandaBubba's Mooks so viciously that his friends have to intervene.
  • Rank Up: Raimundo finally ascends to Apprentice-level.
  • Reformed, but Rejected: While the last few episodes made it seem like Raimundo was Easily Forgiven by his friends/teammates for betraying them for the Heylin side, this episode shows Omi, Clay and Kimiko having kind of a hard time trusting him—although choosing to trust Jack (the villain they fight on a regular basis) over Raimundo was still a really stupid move.
  • What Would X Do?: Omi's idea of advise to Raimundo during the Showdown: "Just think! WHAT WOULD OMI DO!?"
