Recap / White Collar S03 E10 "Countdown"

Go To

Mozzie sold the Degas to pay for the hit on Keller. Problem is, the Degas was on the manifest so now Peter is five seconds away from getting evidence that the art survived the fire. Oh, and Keller's back in town and gunning to steal the art for himself. Also Mozzie wears a fake mustache in this one.

Tropes:

  • Anti-Interference Lock Up: Peter locks up Neal in a holding room in the lobby, attempting to ensure that he cannot interfere with the case. Naturally, Neal has counted on this and escapes anyways, returning back to the room just in time with Peter non the wiser.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Peter says this word for word to Neal, reminding him of the conversation in which Neal dared Peter to prove that he stole the art from the U-boat.
  • Briefcase Blaster: Melissa once recovered a briefcase blaster containing an MP5K. She uses it as a bait for Richmond, telling him she can get him hundreds of that in exchange for the Degas.
  • Elevator Failure: Mozzie manipulates the elevators in Richmond’s building, delaying Peter and buying Neal time to swap out the painting before Peter arrives in the apartment.
  • Heroic BSoD: Peter enters one when he finds out that Keller kidnapped his wife. The surrounding sounds become muffled, and the camera deliberately blurs, conveying Peter’s panic.
  • I Have Your Wife: Keller kidnaps Elizabeth to close out the episode.
Peter: ... he took my wife.
  • Indy Hat Roll: When Neal slides across the lobby floor to get in the elevator as quickly as possible, his hat falls off and he has to reach back through and grab it. Not as dangerous as your typical closing door, but it's a much nicer hat.
  • No Escape but Down: Neal can’t use the elevators nor the stairs to get out of Richmond’s apartment and into the room he is supposed to be locked into. So, he base-jumps off the building right before Peter enters the apartment.
  • Pygmalion Snapback: Kramer warns Peter that Neal will eventually revert back to his con-self:
Kramer: Hey, before I met you, I had a C.I. who used to throw batting practice for my son’s little league team. And now? Now I get the occasional e-mail from prison. These are short-term relationships, Petey, at best. It’s hardwired in their brains.
  • Oh, Crap!: Neal is concerned when he gets in his car and sees a cell phone. It gets worse as it starts ringing almost immediately. Then it gets worse when it's Keller on the other end. Then it gets worse when Keller says he's seen the treasure and Neal has it. Then it gets worse when Keller directly quotes the conversation Peter was having with Elizabeth five seconds ago.
  • Properly Paranoid: Peter has watched every of the movies. Neal isn't going to get away with a Wounded Gazelle Gambit.
Peter: [to security after he's locked Neal in a holding room] Under no circumstances is he to leave. He has no medical condition, he's had enough water, and he's been to the bathroom. If he calls you, don't answer. If he requests anything, don't acquiesce. Am I clear? I am the only person to open that door.
