Episode Title: "Duryard!"

Tropes:

  • Blatant Lies: Gary trying to explain that Duryard is a student village near Exeter, while both Matt and Chris have their heads in their hands, laughing at how unconvincing the story was. Ends up subverted when it turns out he's entirely right.
  • Call-Back: When Matt makes a reference to Burt Bacharach, Tom mentions how he keeps thinking of the phrase "Burt Bacharach back, sack, and crack"; it was one of the prizes they previously used in Citation Needed.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Gary in round one points out that dismissing him was a terrible idea as Tom misremembered his own question.
  • Metagame: When asked what "Willoughby Run" is, Matt takes the text of a completely different Wikipedia article (namely, Roland Kirk's album Slightly Latin) and uses that as the basis of his "lie". Tom even says of it "Oh, you are metagaming this! I don't like this!" at the end of the episode.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness:
    • Matt's use of the word "Mononym" when asking for his answers' context slightly convinces Tom of it being true.
    • Chris's use of "Chert Nodules", which he claims is a type of rock and the way it has eroded.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike:
    • Tom jokes that Chris and Gary pre-emptively came up with a story of Duryard being an English village and Chris also mentions it's a town in Nebraska that's named after that village.
    • Gary and Chris also give similar answers to what Willoughby Run is; the former says it's a creek in Pennsylvania, the latter says it's an eroding river valley named after the Willoughby estate.
