Recap / Transformers G 1 Enter The Nightbird

Go To

The Autobots have been busy marking crucial energy locations for easy use and protection purposes. Naturally, this is something that the Decepticons desperately want. This is a solo mission, and they need someone that can get in and out quickly. Meanwhile, word spreads about the new, powerful Nightbird being developed giving Megatron an idea. Under Decepticon control, Nightbird embarks on her mission into the Autobot base. Can the Autobots thwart the Decepticon plot and overcome Nightbird's martial arts techniques?

Tropes:

  • Berserk Button: Starscream routinely takes as much abuse from Megatron as he throws, but when Megatron gloats that he is now redundant thanks to Nightbird, the seeker attacks him in rage, and needs to be restrained in a cage by the other Decepticons, marking one of very few physical altercations where Starscream actually overpowered Megatron.
Starscream: *seething* You'd replace me? *slugs Megatron* NEVERRRR!!!
  • Dark Action Girl: Nightbird after her reprogramming.
  • The End... Or Is It?: The Autobots manage to recover Nightbird and send her back to Doctor Fujiyama, The Famous Scientist. However unbeknownst to them and the scientist, Nightbird has apparently gained self-awareness and it's implied she wants revenge.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Starscream grew jealous of Nightbird after she impresses Megatron with her skills.
  • Informed Ability: Dr Fujiyama, the Famous Scientist is this. All that is known about him is that he is a famous scientist.
  • It Can Think: Nightbird's angry expression at the end of the episode implies she's gained sentience after seemingly being a mindless mechanoid for the whole episode.
  • Lampshade Hanging: One of the scientists asks:
Ah, why build a robot ninja, doctor? Isn't that rather dangerous?
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: Bombshell is shown to be quite adept at upgrading Nightbird and tripling her power. As the Transformers Wiki puts it:
His engineering skills shown here were rather remarkable for someone with no table manners.
  • Riddle for the Ages: It's never explained how the Decepticons found out about Nightbird's unveiling when in most other episodes, there's a scene of Laserbeak or Ravage spying on the Autobots to set up how the Decepticons find out about what the Autobots are up to.
  • Villainous Rescue: Starscream, of all bots, saves the day by sabotaging Nightbird.
