Daryl and Maggie clash with Rick and Michonne's merciful doctrine during construction of the bridge.
An Arm and a Leg: With Aaron’s left arm beyond hope of saving after being crushed and gnarled by a log, Enid is forced to amputate it.
Both Sides Have a Point: The main conflict of the episode between Maggie and Michonne (as well as Rick and Daryl) has ups and downs on both sides. Maggie has been very generous in providing food to the Saviors given their atrocities, but Jesus and Michonne point out that her own desire to punish Earl is costing Hilltop and the communities an asset. Meanwhile, Michonne and Rick, while having the best intentions, both clearly believe that both the former members of AHK and the Saviors will forgive each other much easier than is possible.
Both Gabriel and Anne reminisce that they both started off as untrustworthy in Seasons 5 and 7, respectively.
Rosita doesn’t trust Arat after she cut her face in Season 7’s “Hearts Still Beating.”
Maggie mentions that Georgie has been sending letters via her emissaries Midge and Hilda since her first visit to Hilltop in Season 8’s “The Key.”
Easily Forgiven: Discussed and defied. Rick and Michonne clearly want everyone to make amends to honor Carl’s vision of peace, but they slowly become aware that people are not coming around as easily as they’d hoped. Arat outright asks if Rosita will ever trust her, but Rosita spits back that she won’t after she cut open her face in Season 7.
Everyone Has Standards: Daryl may be tough as nails, but even he is horrified at the state of Aaron’s arm and is visibly shaken when Enid orders amputation.
Foreshadowing: Maggie and Jesus mention that Georgie has invited her to join her at her community. With Lauren Cohan’s impending departure from the series, could this be a way out?
Good Is Not Soft: Despite his merciful, forgiving attitude so far this season, Rick proves that he does not take assholes like Justin lightly and orders him to return to the Sanctuary.
