While in New Orleans, Zack encounters the ghost of steamship Captain Entineel who was reported to have misread his compass and caused his ship to crash because he was in a rush to propose to his lover, Jesse Belle. Meanwhile, the girls try to help Mr. Moseby conquer his fear of playing the piano in front of an audience.
Tropes
- Arbitrary Skepticism: Initially, Cody refuses to believe ghosts are real. When Zack reminds him that the two of them encountered one at the Tipton a few years prior, Cody dismisses the experience as their hormonal changes at the onset of puberty causing them to see attractive women that weren't really there.
- Book Ends: The episode starts out with Zack getting "F" on his History report. By the end, he now has an "A".
- Call-Back: Zack points out to Cody their last encounter with a ghost to get him to believe him.
- Clear My Name: The reason Entineel is haunting Zack is because he wants someone to prove the steamship crash wasn't his fault.
- Face Your Fears: The girls’ plot is trying to get Mr. Moseby to play piano.
- It's Always Mardi Gras in New Orleans: Subverted. The episode opens with the ship stopped in New Orleans and Woody appearing in Mardi Gras attire asking everyone if they're ready for the celebration. Cody tells him no because Mardi Gras isn't for another three months.
- Karma Houdini: Corey Skulley basically committed mass murder out of jealousy, yet escaped any punishment in his lifetime. The closest he gets is being rejected by Jesse Belle.
- Murder the Hypotenuse: The true reason behind the crash: Entineel's first mate Corey Skully sabotaged the compass as he wanted Jesse Belle all to himself. She still loved Entineel, however, and died single.
- Shout-Out: The boys' ghost hunting equipment is a clear reference to Ghostbusters.
- Together in Death: After Entineel is proven innocent, he salutes Zack before his beloved Jesse Belle joins him as he fades away, finally at peace.
