  • Moral Myopia: Emmanuel's willing to kill Grime, Sasha's substitute father, in front of her, despite the fact that he witnesses his wife executed in front of him years before.
  • The Reveal: Percy and Braddock were there when Lupe was fed to the venus flytrap.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Emmanuel remembers his promise Valeriana that he will work with Grime after the Toad Rebellion is defeated, but he still decides to kill him as revenge for killing his wife.
  • Simultaneous Arcs: Starting from this point, Sasha's journey over the course of Luz and Anne's time on Earth and Lilly sneaking around the castle is put forward.
  • Villain Has a Point: In the first dream, Sasha accuses Belos of making her taint her friendship with Anne, Marcy, and Luz, he then points out that all he did was make the suggestions. She later admits that he was right, and that her actions were hers.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Emmanuel treats Sasha as an equally dangerous threat to Grime, and he's implied to be willing to put her down when necessary.
