A cold sore on Michael's lip leads him to contact his exes. Meanwhile, Andy improvises a sex ed course.
Tropes in this episode:
- Amicable Exes: Donna, Holly, Jan and Carol are quite cordial with Michael. Helene, not so much, and for a good reason.
- Bait-and-Switch: Michael thinks it's spelled "hirpees", and through Misspelling Out Loud, briefly convinces Donna she might have HIV.
- Be Yourself: Darryl's advice to Andy when he sees the latter crying is "be your best self". In a talking head, Darryl reveals he actually had no idea what he was consoling Andy about.
- Broken Pedestal: Come the end of the episode, Michael's idealized memories of his exes are all but gone. All except one: Michael still holds Holly in high esteem.
- Call-Back / The Cameo:
- Michael talks to all of the lovers he has had throughout the series, including Donna, Holly, Jan, Carol, and Pam’s mother. The latter three all appear in person, and neither Jan nor Carol had been seen for a long time before reappearing in this episode.
- In The Stinger, Michael asks Oscar if he has Herpes, since they technically kissed during "Gay Witch Hunt".
- Metaphorgotten: Jan compares her and Michael's relationship to a princess getting involved with someone beneath her station just to anger the queen.Michael: Am I the princess?Jan: No, I'm the princess. And the queen.Michael: So I'm the man in the station?
- Off the Rails: Andy starts a meeting with the goal of educating the office about the risks of sex. He ends up composing a list of the benefits of sex, accidentally comparing his penis to a pencil, throwing a pizza at the wall, and storming out.
- The Un-Reveal: By the end of the episode, Michael still does not know who gave him herpes. He gets his answer off screen and mentions it fifteen episodes later in Garage Sale.
