Go To

Directed by James Marshall
Written by Josh Schwartz and Allan Heinberg

Ryan learns more about Luke when they're paired for a school history project which is that Luke isn't the macho tough guy he puts out to his friends, but he is quite a nice person with a perfect home life. But things take a sudden turn when Ryan and Luke stumble upon a secret of Luke's father's homosexuality. The next day, the news of Luke's father is the talk of the whole school and the town resulting in negative reactions to Luke from his friends, in which he blames Ryan who denies telling anyone about his father being gay. Meanwhile, Kristen continues to avoid Jimmy over their disastrous Thanksgiving dinner encounter, while Sandy has some advice for Jimmy over his legal problems which doesn't set well with Julie over selling their house to pay off the money he lost.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Brainless Beauty: Summer refers to herself as this and Anna contradicts her.
  • Enemy Mine: Ryan and Luke must work together on a school project. By the end of the episode, they have each others' backs in a brawl and are implied to be friends.
  • Disappeared Dad: Ryan comforts Luke about his dad by bringing up his own absent father.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: The teens list off the reasons they are outcasts at school, Seth lists his reason as being himself.
  • Playing Sick: Seth tries to pull this to avoid going to school to see Summer and Anna. Ryan jokes that he has a [[Pun Summer flu.]]
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Usually Luke, this trope transfers to nameless kids from a rival school at the end of the episode as it is revealed Luke's father is gay.
  • Rich Bitch: Julie, as usual- in this episode spreading a rumour that Kirsten is a drunk; although the episode does play with portraying her sympathetically.
