Recap / The Looney Tunes Show S1 E26 "Point, Laser Point"

Go To

The twenty-sixth and final episode of the first season of The Looney Tunes Show.

Sylvester finds himself unable to concentrate after discovering a laser pointer, which Tweety used to his advantage. He goes to seek psychological help. Meanwhile, Bugs and Daffy feel that Granny might be rather lonely, having no one for company except for Sylvester and Tweety. So they start spending time with her to ease her loneliness.

This episode features the "Table For One" Merrie Melodies music video and the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote short, "Shut Your Trap".

This episode provides examples of:

  • A Day in the Limelight: Sylvester finally receives his own episode.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When Sylvester comes across a sign that says "Need help?" he says "How fortuitous! How serendipitous! How propitious!", leading viewers to believe that he is referring to that sign. He then points to the sign above it, which says "Improve your vocabulary!" and says "Best class I ever took."
  • The Cameo: Wile E. Coyote appears in Witch Lezah's waiting room.
  • Can't Stand Them, Can't Live Without Them: At therapy, Witch Lezah tells Tweety that he actually enjoys being chased by Sylvester.
  • Cats Love Laser Pointers: The whole conflict in the episode for Sylvester is that he can’t focus whenever he sees a red dot.
  • Cold Turkeys Are Everywhere: When Sylvester walks down the street, trying to keep his mind off the red dot, he comes across a sale on spotted clothes, a circus clown, and a girl with freckles.
  • Dinner Deformation: In the epilogue, Porky gets a pet snake, which ends up eating him. As Porky scolds the snake for doing this, a Porky-shaped lump can be seen in the snake's belly.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: In the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote short, "Shut Your Trap", Wile E. successfully traps Road Runner in a glass box. However, he spends much of the short trying unsuccessfully to get him out so he can eat him. Eventually, he decides to go in the glass box, but when he does get in, Road Runner comes out and now he's trapped inside with no way out.
  • Furry Reminder: Sylvester chases the red dot from the laser pointer, something actual cats do.
  • Last Request: When Sylvester has Tweety cornered, Tweety asks Sylvester to grant him one last request before he eats him. Sylvester agrees to this, saying that he's an animal, not a monster. Tweety convinces Sylvester to give him the laser pointer.
  • My Beloved Smother: Sylvester's mother is revealed to be nagging after her son left.
  • The Name Is Bond, James Bond: The episode's title is a play on this phrase.
  • Removed from the Picture: A non-romantic variant; Tweety points the laser pointer at a picture of him, Granny, and Sylvester together. When Sylvester tries to catch the red dot, which is over himself, he ends up clawing up that section of the picture. Tweety then says that the picture is "Much impwoved."
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: In the "Table For One" Merrie Melodies music video, Speedy notices Porky alone at a table for six, and thinks that no girls are coming to see him because of his geeky personality. He sings about what Porky should do if he wants girls to get to notice him. At the end of the song, many girls show up to see Porky, having run a little late.
  • The Un-Favorite: It is revealed in this episode that Sylvester's mother prefers Alan, his more handsome brother, over him. She criticizes Sylvester's inability to catch Tweety as well as the fact that he never wears his retainer. She also asks him when he's going to get married so she can have grandchildren.
