Recap / The Interns S 12 E 12

Go To

Kupitman asks Lyosha to talk with Lyuba and learn how she feels. Lyuba sends him back with the same request regarding Kupitman. But when Alexei tells Kupitman about Lyuba, Kupitman starts insisting that Lyuba must go and apologise first. Lyuba, when hears this, reacts negatively and insists that it's Kupitman who must apologise first! They fails to find common language, and starts insulting each other, using Alexei to deliver those insults, which he voices publicly — soon making Rita and Phil think that he's a jerk who makes those up by himself. Alexei gets tired of being their errand boy, and takes the things into his own hands: lies to Lyuba that Kupitman is ready to go and apologise personally, in a restaurant, and tells the similar lies to Kupitman about Lyuba. But when the two arrives, they sees a note from him stating that "you're both adults; deal with it like adults", and realises that he just tricked them. Lyuba wants to leave, but Kupitman realises that Alexei is right, and that they must talk it over. They both admits that it hurts to see the other one with someone else — and that they are a couple now. Meanwhile, Rita and Phil confronts Lyosha about him insulting Lyuba and Kupitman, and he has no other option than "admit" it and apologise before them when they finally arrives; when neither of them shows any sign of remorse for setting him up, he snaps and loudly tells them to go screw themselves, this time genuinely, and leaves.

Timur recognises his patient as his ex-lover, and, to avoid awkwardness, asks Sophia to take her instead. Sophia talks with the patient, and learns that one of her previous partners war so good in bed, she can't have sex with anyone else after him — it would be just disappointing in comparison. Why? Because of his undying creativity: he adds so much chaos (like bra being thrown on a chandelier, or that one time when he used a treadmill, or having sex with him being dressed as Shrek...); she never stops getting surprised, in a positive way. Now, Sophia thinks that Timur only pretended that he'd changed for Polina, and actually continues sleeping around with other women, about which she tells to Polina, who now has even less motivation to give him second chance than before. Timur barely manages to explain to Polina that he simply lied to Sophia, in order to have an excuse to drop all work on her, and doesn't know that girl. But when they enters the ward, the girl still "recognises" Timur, and only when Polina leaves, turns out that she mistook him for ex-boyfriend named Rinat. Polina tells Sophia that Timur "lying" about his patient being his ex is yet another of his schemes how to slack off. And now Gleb is in trouble, too, as Sophia learns that Timur has borrowed that scheme from him.

Gleb's patient, the guy called Panteleev (who looks suspiciously criminal-like) insists on receiving a VIP ward and threatens to call the chief doctor if Gleb does something wrong. Gleb decides that it would be a great opportunity to troll the bastard, and plays along. Gleb then tells Bykov about the guy, which sparks Bykov's interest enough to make him join in. They pretends to fall for patient's demands, for now. But then turns out that Panteleev is indeed familiar with Kisegach: she'd met him on the Medic's day several years ago, he helped (totally wasted) Kisegach to reach her house, while she gave him ill-thought promises as a reward. Kisegach reluctantly agrees to do as Panteleev asks, on condition that he would keep it secret. To Gleb and Bykov, she lies that Panteelev actually saved her life. But Bykov doesn't believe in it, and (with Gleb) goes to learn more details from Kisegach — not even life-saving can excuse that level of jerkassery! She manages to improvise at least somewhat believable story, but Bykov reveals that they've learned everything already — from Panteleev himself.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Bavarian Fire Drill: Panteleev tries to scare Gleb into compliance by threatening to complain to Chief Doctor. Gleb (said Chief Doctor's son) decides to play along, to troll the guy. [[Subverted|Trope Then it turns out]] that the guy actually knows Kisegach; she just completely forgot about him due to meeting him several years ago, while being wasted (he is a taxi driver, whom she gave drunk promise to provide "VIP service" if he ever shows up). This still doesn't excuse his jerkassery, but at least explains why he expected elite conditions.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Timur tries to force Sophia into doing all work by lying that he can't work on his patient, since she is his ex. This in turn causes Sophia thinking that Timur isn't as faithful to Polina as he claims, and saying so to Polina, who's now even less likely to forgive him than before.
  • Keeping Secrets Sucks: By helping Kupitman and Lyuba, Alexei makes himself look like a jerk in process (due to them using him as errand boy to deliver insults towards each other, which he has to do publicly). Now, unless they would confess to being in relationship, Alexei would be forced to either betray them or admit being a jerk to Rita and Phil. He takes the second option, but then snaps and insults Kupitman and Lyuba genuinely.
  • Making Love in All the Wrong Places: We never learn full story, but there was one time when Sophia's patient had sex on a treadmill. Active treadmill.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: Sort of. Timur was already divorced with Polina by the point where this affair was supposed to happen (had it not been a lie Timur orchestrated to avoid doing work), but considering that he claims to still love Polina and wants to go back to her, him having any previous affairs greatly diminishes value of his claims in the eyes of both Sophia and Polina herself.
  • Not What It Looks Like:
    • Alexei, whom both Lyuba and Kupitman uses to deliver insults towards each other, soon stops bothering with adding that he merely delivers someone's words (since they both knows his role as their runner), so, when Rita and Phil overhears him "insulting" Lyuba and Kupitman, they predictably interprets it as Lyosha himself insulting them. They don't believe in his attempts to explain, as any information which would actually prove his innocence would also reveal the secret about relationship.
    • After Timur manages to explain that he isn't familiar with his patient and only lied to Sophia to force her into doing all work, patient still recognises him, after which Polina angrily leaves, thinking that it was a blatant lie. In truth, the patient mistook Timur for another guy called Rinat, but Timur only learns this when it's already too late.
  • Pull the Thread: Both Gleb and Bykov immediately realises that Panteleev's behaviour is merely Bavarian Fire Drill and he has no connections to Kisegach whatsoever, but decides to play along until he botches his cover story by himself. Unfortunately for them, turns out that Kisegach really knows this guy (though not in the way they think), so she orders them to comply with his demands (lying that he "saved her life"). Then they somehow learns that he is a taxi driver and extrapolates what she meant by "life saving" from here anyway.
  • Relationship Upgrade: First time when Kupitman (with Lyuba agreeing) admits that he and Lyuba are actually in relationship, not just mere affair.
  • The Slacker: Timur tells Sophia that his patient is his ex, so he can't work with her — it would be too awkward. It's a complete lie; he just wanted to avoid doing any work. He actually "borrowed" this scheme from Gleb.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Neither Kupitman nor Lyuba tries to defend Alexei (who suffered while helping them), despite being able to say that he only insulted them on their orders. They were not required to go into much details about reason for their quarrel, just some quick excuse, but they do nothing, and Alexei is right in being angry at them.
