What happens in this scene is not pretty...
Shaun desperately tries to forget about his pain at being rejected by Lea while trying to help a patient with dwarfism. But after a few drinks and some bad advice, Shaun is going to make a huge mistake...
- Alcohol-Induced Idiocy: After drinking a few drinks at a bar, Shaun has the worst possible idea for how to deal with his rejection by Lea: smashing her car with a baseball bat. He gives up on the idea at the last minute, but unfortunately, he ends up meeting Lea and ends up saying unpleasant things to her.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Shaun acts like a Jerkass towards Claire and Melendez in the aftermath of Lea's rejection of him at the end of the previous episode. In the end, Shaun prepares to demolish Lea's car with a baseball bat, having watched the scorned girlfriend of a Patient of the Week do the same to her cheating boyfriend's car, when Lea shows up and asks what he's doing. He honestly states his intentions but can't go through with bashing up his friend's car, so instead, he drops the bat and tearfully blasts Lea with one hell of a "The Reason You Suck" Speech before walking off, leaving Lea in tears.
- Drowning My Sorrows: At the end of the episode, Shaun is drinking and trying to forget Lea. And then he has the idea of breaking her car.
- Horrible Judge of Character: Shaun doesn't realize that a crazy woman who wrecked a car using a bat is not the best example to follow.
- Kick the Dog: At the end of the episode, Shaun tries to break Lea's car with a baseball bat, but he can't find the courage and gives up. Unfortunately, he ends up finding Lea and cruelly humiliates her, mocking how Lea can't keep a boyfriend, job or friends, and that she will die alone. Lea listens to everything in silence and crying.
- Love Epiphany: Claire finally admits that she loves Melendez.
- Not Even Bothering with an Excuse: Lea catches Shaun beside her car, holding a baseball bat. Rather than even trying to come up with an excuse, Shaun says honestly that he plans to break her car.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Shaun does a cruel and sad one for Lea at the end of the episode.
- Shaun: You acted like you cared about me. But you don't even respect me. You're flaky, and...and you can't keep a boyfriend. And you can't keep a job. And no one likes you. And...and you're going to end up alone, and you deserve it! Because you're a superficial, selfish, and prejudiced person!
- Sympathetic P.O.V.: Shaun's actions would probably be viewed in a more horrible way, if he were not the protagonist.
- You Are What You Hate: Shaun ends up drinking too much and humiliates Lea in a cruel way that unfortunately resembles his drunken, asshole father.
