Go To

"Ro$e Love$ Mile$" is an episode in the seventh season of The Golden Girls.

When Miles goes overboard with cost-cutting, Rose takes Blanche's advice and takes Miles to an expensive restaurant in the hope of getting him to loosen up. Dorothy entrusts Blanche with taking care of Sophia before leaving for a brief spell, and Blanche is soon in a panic when Sophia travels to Sicily to patch things up with a man she stood up at the altar decades ago.

Tropes:

  • Answer Cut: As Dorothy returns home at the end of the episode and Sophia gets back Just in Time to cover up her own tracks, convincing Dorothy that she's been home the whole time, Dorothy, reassured, compliments Blanche for being responsible enough to have taken good care of Sophia, before asking where Blanche is due to not seeing her at home. Cut to Blanche traveling on the same road Sophia took earlier to the place in Sicily.
  • Cutting Corners: Rose has known Miles to be frugal, but here he goes so far overboard that Rose ends up confronting him about it (for example, he fancies a fancy dish someone else is having when he and Rose are in a pricey restaurant, but he harbors disappointment that the patron is going to consume it all because he's hoping to take the leftover portion instead of ordering one himself).
  • Noodle Incident: When Blanche discovers Sophia went on a trip to Sicily to reconcile with her ex-betrothed, she immediately fears how angry Dorothy's gonna become by reminding Rose what happened when Rose lost Dorothy's keys.
Rose: She uprooted a mighty sequoia!
  • Out of Focus: Dorothy goes away on a leisurely trip early in the episode and returns only near the end of said episode.
  • Runaway Bride: Sophia was one herself decades ago, having stood a man up at the altar as they were about to be wed to each other. She takes a trip after finding out that he's still alive back in Sicily due to feeling that she Must Make Amends by going there to apologize to him personally.
  • The Scrooge: Miles also goes through a bout of this, but he has a reason: he's living on a fixed income, and when he's told he's healthy enough to live to 100, he becomes afraid that he won't be able to afford it.
