Recap / The Ghost And Molly Mc Gee S 2 E 21 The Ghost IS Molly Mc Gee

Go To

Molly and Scratch are in a rut; the former can't manage Libby's newest play due to the crew's rambunctious behavior, while the Ghost Council are on strike because of the latter's boorish attitude. Both decide on a body swap to rely on the other to solve the problem, but what happens when there is one member from each party that doesn't seem phased by their approaches?

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: When Molly suggests they do a body swap to solve each other's problems, Scratch reacts with apparent shock and horror at first, only to remark that such a trope usage can only result in absolute success in a tone of joy.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Georgie's acting skills in Libby's play at the end are rather wooden and cause Molly and Scratch to recoil at the performance.
Scratch: Yeah, there is a reason Georgie was not cast as the lead.
  • Call-Back: Much like in "Molly Vs. The Ghost World", Molly is turned into a wraith by jumping through the ghost portal.
  • Demonic Possession: Scratch switches bodies with Molly by possessing her soulless body while Wraith Molly makes herself look like Scratch.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: The Ghost Council going on strike brings to mind strikes by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA that were ongoing at the time this episode first aired.
    • The drama teacher starts the episode entering the class tiredly, asking Molly to quiet down when she gets excited and putting a couple of painkillers in a glass of water, as if suffering from a hangover.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: The Ghost Council go on strike due to Scratch ruining their hard work and generally not showing the respect they are due. This is especially prevalent with Bartholomew, who is the only member not to be swayed by Scratch!Molly's churro outing until the latter realizes that in order to convince him, she has to hear out all his grievances.
  • Eyes Are Mental: While possessed by Scratch, Molly has his yellow eyes, while Scratch!Molly keeps her eyes.
  • Food as Bribe: Molly in Scratch's body convinces the Ghost Council to stop striking by offering them churros. Only Bartholomew is not swayed by fried pastries.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: The episode revolves around Molly and Scratch trying to solve the problem of the day for the other by engaging in a body swap. Hilariously, Scratch shows genre blindness by decreeing it the best solution ever along with Molly.
  • Strike Episode: Scratch's plot has the Ghost Council go on strike due to a lack of respect from their Chairman. Once the body swap happens, Molly, in her friend's body, manages to stop the majority of them by taking them out for churros, but it takes a genuine heart-to-heart between her and Bartholomew to persuade him to stop the strike for good.
  • Voices Are Mental: When they switch bodies, Molly sounds like Scratch and vice-versa. No one else seems to notice this. Justified in Molly's case, as she isn't actually in Scratch's body but instead got turned into a wraith and was made to look like him, but it's still odd that the Ghost Council didn't recognize her voice.

Georgie's act

There's definitely a reason why Libby wouldn't cast Georgie as lead...

How well does it match the trope?
