Recap / The Dreamstone S 01 E 03 The Knitted Balloon

Go To

Original Air Date (UK): Oct 2, 1990

The Urpneys hand knit a balloon under Urpgor's directions, with which they travel to the Land of Dreams while Zordrak travels there in his spiritual form to possess Amberley and steal the Dreamstone for Blob to collect. Rufus and Albert bring down the balloon, recover the Dreamstone and repel Zordrak.

Tropes featured in the episode:

  • As You Know: Lampshaded when Urpgor reminds Zordrak what will happen if he doesn't get back to his body in time:
Urpgor: Oh master, this is dangerous! Dangerous! Should you not get back in time, your body will crumble piece by piece!
Zordrak: Do you imagine that I am not aware of that, fool?
  • Badass Bystander: Parodied. Since the Urpneys put up so little of a fight, they are easily taken out by an elderly woman, a parrot and a baby as they try to escape.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Amberley, possessed by Zordrak.
  • Curbstomp Battle: Blob and his men are left at Rufus and Albert's mercy, while Zordrak, being in the form of mist, can do nothing to stop them, and retreats after the stone blasted at him.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Being a rare case Zordrak takes active part in a scheme, the episode has a noticeably darker and creepier feel to it.
  • Mook Horror Show: Blob's men chased by Rufus and Albert.
  • Oh, Crap!: Frizz and Nug, first after Blob reveals their drink, and later with Blob as Rufus charges at them.
  • Shoo Out the Clowns: The Urpneys are absent throughout most of Zordrak's rampage with Amberley, arriving only to take the stone off of him.
  • Slasher Smile: After being possessed by Zordrak, Amberley bears a very unsettling grin right at the screen.
  • The Starscream: Urpgor's treacherous nature is established this episode. While he doesn't directly turn on Zordrak, he is really banking on his body crumbling apart.
  • Toothy Bird: As the Urpneys are scrambling to get away from Rufus, Nug enters a house and is bitten by a nearby bird which sports visible teeth as it opens its beak and gets ready to bite his tail.

Zordrak

Zordrak, Lord of Nightmares, has a very deep, growly voice courtesy of Gary Martin. Despite the wacky antics of his henchmen, he still has quite the intimidation factor.
