Arioch Cain (No. 50) provides examples of:

  • As the Good Book Says...: The vigilante assassin Wendigo uses Psalm 1:1 as a unique identifier which he inscribes into his bullets. According to Samar, Psalm 1:1 is "Blessed is he who walks not in the council of the wicked", which is clearly chosen because it sounds like something a vigilante would choose.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Dembe walks in guns blazing just as Solomon is about to fillet Keen.
  • CIA Evil, FBI Good: Ressler doesn't want to share information with the CIA despite the agencies being mandated to share intelligence after 911. This is because while the FBI task force is against the Cabal making them the good guys, the CIA is headed by a leader of the Cabal.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: The person who posted the hit on Liz was a teenage girl named Blair, using the name Arioch Cain, who posted the hit because she wanted justice for her mother who died in the OREA bombing that Liz was framed for.
  • Faking the Dead: Liz, Red, and the task force fake Liz's death to the media so that they can trick the person who posted her hit into releasing the funds so that they can track them.
  • Teens Are Monsters: The backer of Liz's assassination is an angry teenage girl named Blair who believes that Liz was responsible for the terrorist attack that killed her mother.
  • To the Pain: When Solomon manages to (temporarily) restrain Keen and Red, he describes how he's going to fillet Keen.
Solomon: One must work slowly, with great attention to detail, peeling flesh from bone like a butcher filleting a salmon.
