Recap / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 S 2 E 11 Metalhead Rewired

Go To

After Donnie upgrades Metalhead's artificial intelligence, he must decide if he can trust a sentient Metalhead.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Absentee Actor: April doesn't appear. As a side note, this is the first time her dad appears without her.
  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Donnie is worried Metalhead's AI will turn out like this.
    • Turns out that that's not the case, he was trying to save the Kraang mutant prisoners.
  • Artificial Intelligence: Metalhead gets one.
  • Continuity Nod: Many mutants from throughout the series reappear in the Kraang prison.
    • To list: Spider Bytez, Slash, Snake Weed, Pigeon Pete, Dr. Rockwell, Spy-Roach/Chong, a Squirrelanoid, a Parasitic Wasp, Justin, and April's dad. The Newtralizer can also be seen in the background for a couple of seconds in the scene where Dr. Rockwell attacks a Kraang.

    • Leo mentions the Kraang taking over Metalhead once before, referring to Metalhead's debut episode.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: When the mutants are freed, it goes poorly for the Kraang.
  • Enemy Mine: Snakeweed, Spiderbytez, and Slash put their hatred for the turtles aside to attack the Kraang when they're freed.
  • Friendly Tickle Torture: Lampshaded by Mikey when Metalhead uses his scanners to check for the Kraang inside a warehouse.
  • Great Escape: What the heroes (especially Metalhead) hope to accomplish.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Metalhead ends up sacrificing himself to allow the turtles to escape.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Donatello and Leonardo get sucked into a Kraang portal. Raphael and Michelangelo's solution? Run in ready to battle, while screaming.
  • No Snack For You: Michelangelo tries to get a burrito from a vending machine, but gets his arm stuck. When he pulls free it opens the machine, revealing a Kraang portal inside. When it closes and Metalhead tries to reopen it, he accidentally destroys the vending machine... and the burrito, to Mikey's dismay.

  • Rule of Funny: For whatever reason, Michelangelo is the only one who can open a Kraang portal placed in a porta-potty, and even boasts this, to Donatello's frustration.
  • Running Gag: Mikey getting hit by Metalhead's Rocket Punch.
  • Shout-Out: The tool Metalhead uses to access the Kraang computer is identical to R2-D2's interface arm. And then he makes the same "wahoo" noise before it blows up.
  • Taking You with Me: Metalhead self-destructs whilst the Kraang are all holding onto him.
  • Toilet Humor: Michelangelo farts a few times in the episode, and a porta-potty is shown, complete with a fart noise. Oddly, Spider Bytez, who had fart noises whenever he used webbing in his first appearance, lost that sound effect, and it was replaced with more of a "thwip" sound.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: How does Metalhead try helping the turtles? Locking them in the lab, welding the garage door shut, and breaking into the Kraang headquarters on its own. Justified since Leo openly told Donnie to shut down Metalhead for being a hindrance to the team while Metalhead was being repaired right next to them.

How well does it match the trope?
