Recap / Strong Bad Email E 73 Mascot

Go To

Airdate: Monday, May 19, 2003

Sender: Ike

Strong Bad: Ooh! A little email never hurt nobody. Except for maybe The Cheat. (brings up the email) So what do we got here (mumbles incoherently, then begins reading)

Ike wants to know if Crazy-Go-Nuts University has a mascot. Strong Bad admits that it does, but due to some confusion and fatigue on the part of The Cheat, Strong Mad, and himself, they wound up getting named the CGNU Dumples.

Strong Bad: I think maybe we meant dumplings? But we were really hungry and tired and sorta confused and ended up putting Dumples on the application.

At least CGNU's Golf Club team is something to be proud of, even if the sport just involves the "competitors" hitting each other with golf clubs. They even get Homestar to dress up as the Jolly Dumple and celebrate CGNU's victory over Pile of Electronics State with a victory song.

Strong Bad: So, we're still undefeated. But next week's going to be a tough game against Homestar's Knees Tech. Well, I gots to go. I promised the team I'd get them real fruit smoothies if they won the game. (beat) And they won the game. (beat) So I'm getting them real fruit smoothies. (types in "run "fightsong" and exits)

Tropes:

  • Call-Back: Strong Bad revisits Crazy-Go-Nuts University.
  • Continuity Nod: An Easter egg image of Strong Bad, The Cheat, and Strong Mad lounging around a couch resembles their position at the start of "Lookin' at a Thing in a Bag".
  • Calvin Ball: The sport of "Golf Club" seems to be an excuse for Strong Bad and company to take a nine-iron to random stuff.
  • Goofy Suit: Homestar dresses as the Jolly Dumple, which appears to be a ravioli with a long, cartoonish tongue, two hands giving the thumbs-up, and a tricorne hat.
  • Lyrical Shoehorn: The CGNU fight song.
    Fighting, and sometimes striving
    Wondering what the Dumple is
    Excellence, and what is valor?
And The Cheat will hit stuff with a golf-club!
  • Spelling Song: The CGNU fight song ends with the chant "See! Gee! In! ...You!"
    Homestar: Me?

Compy 386: (plays an electronic rendition of the CGNU victory song, showing the letter of each note in the process) GO DUMPLES!!!
(The Paper comes down)
