Recap / SMG4's Mario Bloopers Welcome To Mario Mart™

Go To

Mario will serve you now 🤡
Mario accidentally destroys the microwave at Fishy Boopkins' 7-Eleven, so Boopkins puts Mario in charge while he looks for a new one. But between Mario's usual idiocy and thieves in the form of Bob and Swagmaster, Hilarity Ensues.

Tropes:

  • All for Nothing: The store's out of eggs, but there's an Old Man who keeps on saying "egg," so to get him to shut up, Mario finds a Yoshi outside and spanks him to get an egg to give it to the Old Man. The Old Man is appeased upon getting the egg, but he trips over and the egg breaks, causing him to resume saying "egg," much to Mario's chagrin.
  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: And apparently, so can Fishy Boopkins.
  • Call-Back: Fishy Boopkins took up a job at 7-Eleven to pay off his student loans.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Mario attempting to make a slushie with an Old Man eventually resulted it in turning into a monster which forces everyone to take part in an Enemy Mine.
  • Cowboy Be Bop At His Computer: Meggy purchases a "Splatgun", which is clearly a basic Splattershot. Also, the official name for the gun-type Splatoon weapons are called "Shooters".
  • Dumbass Has a Point: While he's too dumb to recognize Inkling Meggy in her photo ID, Mario correctly points out he needs ID to validate her gun purchase, regardless of their friendship.
  • Enemy Mine: Mario and Meggy initially fight Bob and Swag for trying to rob the store, but put their differences aside to fight Old Man Hobo when becomes a slushie machine monster.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: Bob is faced with saving his friends from the Slushie Man (the unholy fusion of Old Man Hobo and a slushie machine) or booking it with the lottery machine. At first he goes for the machine, but his conscience wins out and he uses it to help.
  • Reality Is Unrealistic: When Meggy attempts to buy a Splatgun, Mario requires her ID card and turns her away because she doesn't match her photo, which still shows her as an Inkling… even though he's known Meggy years before and after she turned human. That said, he is correct about the ID. Even if you're a friend of the cashier, you're always required to show proof of identification regardless.
  • Running Gag: The old man saying "EGG."
  • Significant Birth Date: Meggy's birthday is listed as July 16th, the day "If Mario Was In… Splatoon" was first uploaded to Youtube… although due to time zone differences, it was still July 15th in most of the world (GLITCH Productions is based in Eastern Australia, close to the International Date Line).
    • Worth noting her birth year is shown to be 2002, making Meggy 19 when this episode came out, canonizing a comment made by her voice actress during a Q&A a few months earlier.
  • The Snack Is More Interesting: Mario would rather eat cookies than join the fight against Bob and Swag.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Meggy trying to update her ID via phone.
    "YES, I CHANGED SPECIES!"
  • Tranquil Fury: Meggy gets really mad when Mario refuses to accept her ID (admittedly because her photo doesn't match her current face) and just takes her now irrelevant ID back and leaves the store to try to get herself a new ID.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Meggy may be extremely peeved at Mario for denying her weapon sale and not recognizing her ID, but she doesn't hesitate to leap in and help him when Bob and Swag hold up the joint.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Boopkins spends the whole episode toiling to find a working microwave for Mario's frozen spaghetti, even going to the moon and back, while leaving Mario to hold the fort so he doesn't get fired. When he finally comes back successful at the end, he's left to deal with the whole store being trashed from the episode's shenanigans while no one else bats an eye.
