Recap / SMG4's Mario Bloopers If Mario Was In... Poppy Playtime

Go To

Luigi and Mario go find a Poppy Doll... only they find Huggy Wuggy instead

When Luigi sees an ad for a Poppy Doll, he and (a reluctant) Mario go to the toy factory to get it.

  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Mario is genuinely saddened when he believes that Poppy dragged Luigi off to hell. Well, she did, but not forcefully, as Luigi proves by immediately coming back.
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • Huggy Wuggy looks like it was about to kill Mario only for it to be revealed that it only wanted to be Mario's friend. The Running Gag of Mario befriending popular terrifying creatures continues.
    • Luigi gets sucked into a portal to hell by the Poppy doll... then it's revealed that Luigi is just fine because the portals to hell are really a Mundane Utility.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: To force Mario to go to a toy factory with him to get Poppy, Luigi pulls out a title card reading "If Mario was in... Poppy Playtime" and forces it into Mario's face (and by extension, the camera).
  • Call-Back: Papa John appears as the devil again.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: It's soon revealed after Huggy Wuggy finally catches up with Mario that he just wanted to be Mario's friend.
  • Mundane Utility: The Poppy doll can make portals to Hel- er, Papa John's. Luigi reacts to this like it was just a simple convenience.
  • Oblivious to His Own Description: When asked to describe a friend to make a toy, Mario types down descriptions such as Ugly AF, Short, Makes Me Want To Die and laughs when the machine reviews the list... then it spits out a Mario plushie. Mario immediately realizes the implication.
  • Self-Deprecation: Created by a deranged man aka SMG4.
  • Unexplained Recovery: The next time we see Luigi after he is abducted at the start, he's seen happily standing in front of Poppy's case like nothing bad happened.
