Rigby is jinxed (forced into not talking until someone says his name three times), and must find a way out of his predicament when things turn sour after he performs a mirror ritual.
"Jinx" provides examples of:
- Alternate Identity Amnesia: Everyone transformed by the Jinx Monster can't remember anything that happened, which means Mordecai and Rigby avoid any blame for the situation. Skips is the only one that remembers, explaining his mind is a steel-trap.
- Butt-Monkey: Rigby gets punched repeatedly by Mordecai (and Skips as well).
- Eldritch Abomination: The Jinx Monster. It claws anyone in its path, turning them into jinx monsters as well.
- Eye Scream: The episode ends with Rigby poking Mordecai in the eyes after the latter taunts him for being weak.
- Fanservice Extra: A few of the people who end up in just their underwear after being transformed and restored back to normal include quite pleasant to look at female characters.
- Fantastic Racism: Rigby's attempt to get Pops to break the jinx through charades has Pops making repeated guesses that disparage raccoons as dirty and uneducated.
- Honor Before Reason: When Rigby locks himself in the restroom, Mordecai and Skips try to stop Rigby from accidentally summoning the Jinx Monster by telling him they'll unjinx him themselves if he comes out, only for Rigby to tell them to just unjinx him now if they're honest. Skips says it doesn't work that way and it needs to happen face-to-face instead of just playing along with his demand.
- Laser-Guided Karma:
- Muscle Man gets turned into a jinx monster due to not only punching Hi-Five Ghost relentlessly but tricking Rigby into humiliating himself in the bathroom.
- Although Rigby was unsuccessful in punching Mordecai in the arm (due to his short statue and weak physique), he does get to poke him in the eye for everything the latter put him through.
- Rigby himself could qualify, as he gets repeatedly punched by Mordecai for his Jerkass behavior before and after this episode.
- Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: The Jinx Monster is best described as a werewolf-like mirror shadow demon.
- Noodle Incident: Skips says he has seen an incident with the Jinx Monster before and knows how to stop it. Though nothing else about this is explained since he is captured and transformed before he can explain.
- Not So Above It All: After hearing Rigby is jinxed, Skips has no problem joining Mordecai in the fun.Mordecai: You wanna follow him?
Skips: Yeah, why not? I'm not doing anything right now. - Sdrawkcab Name: Mordecai and Rigby realize that the Jinx Monster's name is Rigby's in reverse, "Ybgir".
- Shapeshifting Excludes Clothing: Everyone who was turned into the Jinx Monster's minions had their clothes destroyed by the transformation, and are only seen in their underwear once they're all back to normal, the only ones who didn't have that happen were Benson (who doesn't wear any clothes), and Skips (who only wears jeans).
- Simple Solution Won't Work: After Rigby fails to get Benson and Pops to undo his jinx by annoying Benson and playing charades with Pops, he simply writes out his message to Skips. Unfortunately, Skips says that to some people writing is talking, so he considers it as Rigby still technically breaking the rules.
- Unstoppable Rage: Benson has an outburst upon getting trash thrown at him by Rigby (to make him to say his name three times to undo the jinx), throwing a trash can and kicking it away before storming off.
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Muscle Man. He convinces Rigby to talk to himself in the bathroom as a practical joke, which leads to Rigby accidentally summoning the Jinx Monster that slays everyone in its sight.
