Rigby unknowingly hires a wanted fugitive as a temp to do his work at the park, and soon learns of his devious ways when he begins to steal his identity.

"Temp Check" contains examples of:

  • Bowdlerization: The UK version edited the part where Rigby auditions a biker for the position of temp. In the original American version, the biker auditions by farting into a harmonica. The UK version has an alternate scene where the biker sticks two kazoos up his nose and breathes through them.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Earlier, Mordecai and Rigby pretend to give a celebratory hug, but both back away at the last second, claiming it's "sick." When one of the Rigbys hugs Mordecai, this gives away that he is Doug.
  • The Dreaded Toilet Duty: Benson shafts Rigby with three months of toilet duty for hiring Doug as a temp so that he didn't have to do any work. We don't get to see any toilet cleaning, but Rigby offers Mordecai a way to make an easy ten bucks, implying that he's trying to foist the job onto him.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Even though Benson was being his usual Mean Boss self here, he still had every right to reprimand Rigby for hiring a temp to do all his chores for him, dismissing Doug's heartfelt speech as nonsense, and calling his friends idiots even though they were helping him out. As he puts it:
Benson: I'm the only one here who hires and fires, so if you really don't want to do your own job, I'd be glad to accommodate you. Otherwise, you're on toilet duty for the next... THREE MONTHS! Unbelievable!
  • Mean Boss: Benson ends up being a bit too thorough at the start of the episode, telling Mordecai and Rigby that they have to re-mow the entire field because the grass is an inch too tall, justifying it through a hypothetical scenario of an athlete tripping over the grass and filing a lawsuit.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Rigby takes what Mordecai says a little too literally.
Rigby: I'm gonna hire a temp!
Mordecai: This sounds like a scam.
Rigby: Hey, if hiring a dude to do all my work and paying him a small part of my paycheck while I go and get a meatball sub is a scam, then this is a hu-u-uge SCAM! (people overhear Rigby and walk off in disgust)
  • Spot the Imposter: The Park crew resort to testing out who's who between Rigby and Doug. It ends with Mordecai in tricking Doug to hugging him — something which Rigby would never do.
  • Stunned Silence: When the biker Rigby interviews as a temp farts into a harmonica, Rigby can only react with sheer, quiet disbelief for five seconds, before telling the biker to knock it off.
  • Terrible Interviewees Montage: Occurs when Rigby is hiring people to be his temp before Doug comes along. The first one can do pyrotechnics so much that his clothes have been ruined, the second one can also do pyrotechnics that causes his parrot to explode, and the third one is a biker who does not do pyrotechnics but can however do music with his body.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Once Rigby's friends save him from Doug's wrath, Doug tells him that has a lot to appreciate in his life. Rigby immediately dismisses it, calling all his friends a bunch of idiots for believing Doug was him even after they saved Rigby from getting his identity stolen permanently.
  • Wham Line: Once Doug dropped his innocence and completing his transformation into Rigby.
Doug: Fired? You can't fire me! This is the best job I've ever had! I'm finally becoming somebody! Besides... (in Rigby's voice) I'm more Rigby than you ever were... or will be!
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Mordecai and Benson have this reaction towards Rigby in the end.
  • You Make Me Sick: Mordecai says this word-for-word after seeing Rigby paying Doug a grossly small amount of money for doing his job for him.
