Butch and Cassidy kidnapped Professor Oak from a TV studio to get information about the Pokemon virus, aptly named Pokerus, for Professor Namba.
This episode provides examples of:
- Accidental Misnaming: As expected.Tracey: That's Cassidy!Ritchie: And that's Botch!Butch: (falls over like he tried to do a back flip) Hey, listen, short stack! It's not Botch, it's Butch! Butch! Didn't your mother teach you to remember people's names?!
- Call-Back: This is the second time Cassidy is disguised as a Nidoqueen; the first being Showdown At The Oak Corral.
- Nails on a Chalkboard: A variation; see Torment by Annoyance below.
- Rule of Three: The threat of a third round of their interrogation tactic gets Oak to talk.
- Shout-Out:
- The TV show Butch mentions, "Funniest Pokemon Home Videos" is a parody of America's Funniest Home Videos.
- The show Mary and Professor Oak rehearse for is "Pokemon Masterchef" a parody of, well, MasterChef.
- Stealth Pun: In the English dub, Ritchie visited Professor Oak because he wanted advice on evolving his Eevee. In the end, Namba's reason to kidnap Oak was to learn more about Pokérus, which is mostly known among game players as a method to level up EVs.
- Torment by Annoyance: Butch and Cassidy's tactic in getting Professor Oak to spill the info they want, Butch holds a pane of glass, while Cassidy scrapes a nail against it, creating a horrible noise.
