Go To

After defeating Skyla and earning the Jet Badge, Ash and Co. head out to Icirrus City. Along the way, they reunite with their old friend Stephan who informs the trip that he is entering a contest called the Wishing Bell Festival. This festival is about going through series of obstacle courses along the way until the final event, one of them will win and get to ring the bell at the top of Celestial Tower and make a wish. As Ash and co. arrive at the festival, they soon find out that the contest is run by Miles, whom Stephan did not realize the previous Gym Leader and Skyla's grandfather. Of course, what Stephan says is true it did happen to be an obstacle course with many challenges as Trainer's pair up with their Pokémon. Who will win this towering race? The event of the "Wishing Bell Festival" begins now!

Tropes

  • Armor-Piercing Question: Question 2 of the questionnaire trial: Discussing about Castelia Cones opening on a Tuesday. Even if a trainer has traveled to Castelia City and ate there, this question can easily be overlooked. Luckily, the gang gets this right all due to a deep photographic memory.
  • Accidental Misnaming: Stephan. No surprise here.
    • There were 2 instances where this was actually averted: The beginning narration and when Iris asked where "Stephan" was during the boat ride, but Stephan didn't hear it.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: Ricky. He used his Elygem to mind-control Miles, much to the disgust of everyone competing. At the end, he did not win the contest, much to delight of everyone else.
  • Desperate Object Catch: Ash needs a Thunder Stone for one round of the competition. Someone cheerfully throws him one, but it ends up heading directly at Pikachu. Thus, Ash dramatically dives toward the object to ensure that Raichu doesn't happen.
  • Dirty Old Man: Miles. Fortunately, Skyla wasn't there, but let's see:
    • Question 3 of the questionnaire asks if he liked Officer Jenny or Nurse Joy more. Since this was a 50/50 coin flip, Ricky used Elygem to mind-control Miles. Miles changed his mind to Officer Jenny.
    • Being a big fan of Elesa, blushing about it, and disqualifying Cilan for "being a very harsh critic". There was no Cilan would have won that despite having a gender-swapped impressive performance.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Pikachu almost evolving due to one of the contestants throwing a Thunder Stone to Ash, but almost landed on Pikachu.
    • Stephan holding a real Litwick. This litwick blew Ash's candle for Stephan to win the contest.
  • Overused Running Gag: Stephan. In fact, the entire episode is dedicated on wishing to avert this trope after winning.
  • Took a Level in Dumbass: Stephan, almost failing Question 1 of the questionnaire trial. Stephan almost failed the question of True/False of starter Pokemon types. At this time of training, this was inexcusable and it took the trio to convince him.
