While Flash and Astro are training, they accidentally interrupt a trainer named Sugarcoat and her Morgrem. When Sugarcoat dismisses Astro as useless, Flash challenges her to a battle and is quickly defeated. Against the suggestion of Cadance, Flash plans to train Astro and think of a strategy to win a rematch. Can the two overcome their disadvantage and win this "impossible" matchup?

  • Brutal Honesty: Just like in canon, Sugarcoat does not have any kind of filter on her opinions and bluntly states her observations, even if it is as hurtful as saying Astro is "worthless".
    Spike: She's mean.
Cadance: I wouldn't call it mean. She's just... blunt. Stating the facts no matter how harsh the facts are.
    Spike: Still mean.
  • By the Hair: During their rematch, Astro grabs Morgrem by its ponytail, and starts swinging it by its hair until he lets go and sends it flying.
  • Death Glare: Flash utilizes Astro's Leer to great effect in their rematch with Morgrem. It slowly lowers Morgrem's defense, and using it essentially makes Sucker Punch and Fake Out useless since Astro isn't "attacking" first.
  • Heroic Rematch: After losing to Sugarcoat and Morgrem, Flash spends an entire day training with Astro and thinking of a strategy to use against them, and end up winning their rematch.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Sugarcoat has Morgrem use Swagger to increase Astro's attack power but making him confused and helpless. But this ends up backfiring in their second battle when Astro is able to snap out of his confusion, meaning now he is even stronger, and she can't risk using Swagger again since then Astro would be strong enough to one-shot Morgrem even if he was confused.
  • Logical Latecomer: Cadance suggests that Flash and Astro should just forget about Sugarcoat and Morgrem, believing that they are at too big of a disadvantage to win, instead of stubbornly trying to train against an opponent he has no chance of beating. Not only does Flash ignore her suggestion and continue training Astro for a rematch, no one else in the group sides with her and instead help Flash think of stuff that would give Astro an advantage against Morgrem.
  • Ship Tease: Cadance notices how Twilight puts aside her logical beliefs just to support Flash, and later how she watches him train Astro instead of reading her book. She quickly catches on and finds it cute.
  • Sore Loser: Sugarcoat is quick to look down on Astro and state hurtful facts she believes about him, but when he actually manages to beat Morgrem she just growls that it just means they are tied now and runs off saying once Morgrem learns a strong enough Fairy move they'll win for sure.
  • Spotting the Thread: When reviewing their first battle with Sugarcoat and Morgrem, Twilight recalls that Morgrem never used any Fairy-type moves during the battle, with Doc stating Sugarcoat would have definetly used one if Morgrem knew one since Astro is four times weak against them. This leads to them realizing the four moves Morgrem does have and how Flash can use that to his advantage.
  • This Cannot Be!: When Astro starts to win the rematch, Sugarcoat starts screaming that this is impossible and that it's impossible for the Starvern to ever beat Morgrem. After she loses, she continues to whisper that one day of training shouldn't have been enough for them to become strong enough to beat them.
