Recap / Pokemon EA 14 The Guardian Of The Lake

Go To

The next camp activity at camp is fishing for a Water-Type Pokémon from the camp lake and doing a report on it after stydying and observing it. Flash ends up with a Clauncher, apparently the laziest Pokémon in the lake, but can Flash prove there is more to Clauncher than it seems?

  • Beyond the Impossible: Pinkie not only somehow manages to fish out three different Water-Types on the same line, one of them is an Oshawott that Timber claims he has never even seen in the lake before.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Clauncher gives one to Gyarados to stop its rampage in the lake. This ends up surprising everyone, since Clauncher had just been laying around all day not doing anything.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After being on the receiving end of the tricks of several other Pokémon for who knows how long, Magikarp finally hits its Rage Breaking Point when Lightning kicks it away from him, causing him to evolve into Gyarados and go on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge.
  • Entitled Bastard: Lightning is this for the second chapter in a row. After bullying Magikarp to leave him alone by kicking it away, causing it to evolve into Gyarados, he has the nerve to demand that Gloriosa, the owner of the camp, hand it over to him after she catches it, claiming "If it's strong I deserve it" and claiming only he can handle that kind of power. Naturally he is denied.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: After everyone sees how powerful Clauncher is by defeating Gyarados, and see several Pokémon giving Clauncher food afterwards, Timber assumes they are doing it because they are scared of him and want to stay on Clauncher's good side, so he won't do to them what he did to Gyarados, essentially painting Clauncher as The Bully of the lake. Flash realizes right away that this is wrong, since if they were afraid of Clauncher they would just leave him alone. They are actually doing it because Clauncher is the Guardian of the Lake and they respect him for protecting them.
  • Hidden Depths: At first Clauncher seems to just be a Lazy Bum that sleeps all day and relies on other Pokémon to bring its food to it. But then, Flash realizes that Clauncher isn't actually lazy, he is just saving his energy and making sure he is well rested so he can protect the lake and everyone in it from any threats at any time. The other Pokémon give him food out of respect and as thanks for keeping them safe.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After Lightning kicks Magikarp away to get it to leave him alone, Magikarp ends up evolving into Gyarados and one of the first things it does is create huge waves that knock out Lightning, getting its revenge on him. Later, after Gyarados has been knocked out by Clauncher and caught by Gloriosa, Lightning is punished for causing the whole thing and endangering everyone by being assigned dinner and dish duty.
  • Mythology Gag: Magikarp evolving into Gyarados after being kicked by Lightning and going on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge is just like what happened to James's Magikarp in the anime.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Gloriosa realizes that Lightning doesn't care about the point system, so when she punishes him for his actions, instead of punishing his entire cabin by taking away points, she specifically punishes only him by assigning him to help make dinner tonight and giving him dish duty afterwards.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Flash says this when Timber tells him the Clauncher he fished out is a Lazy Bum and he has never seen it do anything worthwhile or interesting.
