Recap / Peg + Cat S1E67 "The Girl Group Problem"

Go To

The episode begins with Peg announcing that she leads a girl band called the Pentagirls and her band mates are Aki, Tessa, Cleopatra, and Juliette. Cat is their manager. Peg then plans to have a set piece that changes from a triangle to a rectangle to a pentagon.

They set off, but do not know which way to go. They have trouble reading the map (reading it upside down and the wrong way, etc) and have to "flip", "slide", and "turn" it, which inspires Peg to reference flipping, sliding, and turning in her song.

When they arrive, they have to build the stage themselves, and the set piece cannot change due to insufficient electricity, but when Peg sees Cat make a pentagon with his tail, she decides that they can make the shapes with their bodies. They then do the show.

This episode provides examples of

  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: Cat is indigo, Epiderims (who's briefly seen) is lilac, and Toad is yellow.
  • Anachronism Stew: It's the modern age, but Cleopatra is present, and the audience consists of dinosaurs.
  • Big "NO!": When the set piece doesn't work, three of the Pentagirls shout, "No!".
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: First Aki says, "We've got a really big problem!", then the rest of the Pentagirls (but Peg too) say, "totally freaking out".
  • Catchphrase: Zigzagged. First, Aki mentions a really big problem, then Peg gets to as usual, then all of them say the "totally freaking out" catchphrase, then Ramone comes but he doesn't say, "I do what I can".
  • Chewing the Scenery: Aki does ninja moves to demonstrate actions, three of the Pentagirls shout, "No!", and they all borrow a few of Peg's dramatic tendencies like flailing their arms while "totally freaking out".
  • A Dog Named "Dog": A cat named Cat and a toad named Toad.
  • Idiot Ball: First, everyone but Peg thinks the map is blank when actually they're reading it the wrong way, then when they have no concept of "flipping", "sliding" or "turning" the map.
  • Like Is, Like, a Comma: Tessa says a few superfluous "like"s.
  • Nearly Normal Animal: Cat and Toad act like humans but live like animals. Toad also has a mustache.
  • Ninja: Aki calls herself a ninja.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: Juliette doesn't speak in rhyme always, but she does do it quite a lot.
  • Shout-Out: Romeo and Juliette from Shakespeare's play are present.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: In Romeo And Juliette, both title characters die, but they both feature in this episode, alive.
  • Speak in Unison:
    • At one point, three Pentagirls do a simultaneous Big "No".
    • When the Pentagirls "totally freak out", they say, "totally freaking out" in unison.
  • Totally Radical: All the Pentagirls, even Juliette and Cleopatra, speak in "cool dude" slang a few times this episode.
