First Fish: Molly can't wait to catch her first fish, but the only thing she catches is Tooey's missing boot.
"First Fish" contains the following tropes:
- Alliterative Title: First Fish.
- Eyedscreen: During Grandpa Nat's retelling of his first catch, the camera narrows on his younger self's eyes while squaring off with a giant fanged salmon.
- Fishing Episode: This episode sees Molly trying to catch her first fish.
- Fishing for Sole: At one point, Molly catches Tooey's missing boot.
- Frying Pan of Doom: How Nat allegedly took down his whopper of a salmon.
- I Can't Hear You: Tooey's message to Molly gets passed along a chain of people, none of whom are in close enough earshot to actually hear the full message. By the time it does get to Molly, it's distorted beyond recognition.
- Tall Tale: Molly wants to catch her first fish so that she can join in the fish story competition her parents and grandfather have going.
A-Maze-Ing Snow: Trini gets lost in a maze at the community fun-raiser.
"A-Maze-Ing Snow" contains the following tropes:
- Feedback Rule: Grandpa Nat gets mildly frustrated by the loudspeaker mic's feedback.
- Fundraiser Carnival: How the kids hope to raise the money to fix their school roof.
- The Maze: The kids build a maze out of snow for a fundraiser.
- Repeat After Me: Tooey calls for Trini to say his name so he can follow her voice. She responds by yelling, "My name!"
- Shout-Out: The scene where Trini gets lost in the snow maze is supposedly a reference to The Shining; specifically, the scene at the end of the movie where Danny is being chased in the snow maze by his father Jack.
