Recap / M*A*S*H S6E13: Comrades in Arms, Pt. 2

Go To

Hawkeye and Margaret wake up in the abandoned hut where they slept together (in more ways than one). Margaret seems ready to start a romantic relationship with Hawkeye, but Hawkeye is rather reluctant at the prospect, especially at the thought of telling Margaret's (large and powerfully-built) husband that she'd be leaving him. Meanwhile, BJ, determined to find them, convinces a chopper pilot to fly out on a reconnaissance mission against Col. Potter's orders. He finds their location and is able to relay it to the 8063 MASH, who find Hawkeye and Margaret at last. The two of them are now fighting over their different reactions to what happened the night before (and finally give their demonstration while sniping at each other), but reconcile their differences after returning to the 4077, admitting they'll be closer friends for what happened.

Attention, all personnel! Captain Hunnicutt has located Major Houlihan and Captain Pierce, as well as the following tropes:

  • Better as Friends: What ultimately becomes of the relationship between Hawkeye and Margaret.
  • Big Damn Heroes: B.J. and chopper pilot Doug Aylesworth go against orders and go up to look for Hawkeye and Margaret.
  • Call-Forward: Margaret mentions the new clamp designed by the surgeons in "Patent 4077", which had yet to air.
  • I Can Change My Beloved: Hawkeye protests Margaret wanting to change everything about him, particularly his clothes and lack of shaving.
  • Idiot Ball: Margaret repeatedly yells at Hawkeye at full volume while they are behind enemy lines and at risk of capture.
  • It's All About Me: Hawkeye and Margaret accuse each other of this, Margaret of needing constant praise and Hawkeye of needing someone to laugh at every remark he makes.
  • Never Speak Ill of the Dead: B.J. warns Winchester about speaking well of the dead prematurely while Hawkeye and Margaret are missing.
  • Nothing Is the Same Anymore: This is the episode where Hawkeye and Margaret finally made peace, and they become affectionately snipey friends.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Hawkeye's reaction to Margaret trying to be in love with him.
    • The chopper pilot's reaction to finding Hawkeye and Margaret's Jeep...and the four heavily armed North Korean soldiers who took it.
    • Hawkeye and Margaret's reaction to the Korean soldier who finds them hiding in the rain...until he announces he's from the 8063rd.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Father Mulcahy's anger at the chaplain of the 8063rd over their reluctance to send out a search party "may cost me a few days in Purgatory".
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: When Margaret asks him what they'll tell Donald, Hawkeye asks "What do you usually tell him?"
  • Robbing the Dead: A wounded North Korean soldier picks the pockets of the dead soldier who Hawkeye tried to save in Part 1...right before passing out from blood loss.
  • The Tape Knew You Would Say That: When Potter radios B.J. and Doug in the helicopter:
B.J.: Suppose the radio's broken for another five minutes.
Potter: I know you can hear me, damn it. Now pick up the phone.
  • Tsundere: After spending all of Part One in tsuntsun mode, Margaret starts off Part 2 in deredere. It doesn't last.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: Hawkeye's waking up sequence has this in spades: a slow wake-up, a glance at Margaret, followed by a mutter of "Oh yeah...".
