Recap / Left Behind Book 4: Soul Harvest

Go To

After the Wrath of the Lamb earthquake, Rayford Steele must find his wife Amanda while Buck Williams must find his wife Chloe, with the only other person accounted for being Tsion Ben-Judah. The Tribulation Force make their new home inside a believer's house, who had perished along with his wife in the earthquake. Buck finds Chloe in a hospital, and also finds out that she is pregnant with his child. Hattie Durham flees from Nicolae Carpathia, but is seen at a Colorado abortion clinic center, to which Buck goes to and rescues Hattie from the Global Community who are sent to kill her and whoever tries to rescue her. Rayford finds his wife Amanda submerged in the Tigris River in an airplane crash. The first three Trumpet Judgments take place during this story, in which one-third of all trees and all green grass is burned up, one-third of the seas turn to blood, and one-third of all springs are made bitter and poisonous to drink.

This story provides examples of:

  • Back from the Dead: Leonardo Fortunato, who died during the Wrath of the Lamb earthquake, was resurrected by Nicolae in this book to resume his role as the Supreme Commander.
  • Big "NO!": Rayford Steele utters several of these upon discovering Amanda's body in the Dramatic Audio version.
  • Bury Your Gays: Shortly after being accidentally outed as a lesbian in the previous story, Global Weekly editor-in-chief Verna Zee has been killed in the Wrath of the Lamb earthquake along with most of the Chicago staff.
  • But She Can't Be Pregnant!: Buck's reaction upon finding out that Mother Doe is in fact Chloe...and that she is pregnant with their child.
  • Claimed by the Supernatural: Both the 144,000 of the twelve tribes of Israel and the Tribulation saints who have put their faith in Jesus Christ are sealed with a cross on their foreheads that only other believers can see, beginning from this book onward. From this book onward, it is explained that anyone who bears the seal of God is eternally claimed by God and cannot ever change their mind even when faced with the decision to take the Mark of the Beast (which comes later in The Mark).
  • Colony Drop: A huge mountain falls from the sky in the second Trumpet Judgment and lands in the middle of the ocean, causing one-third of all ships in the sea to be destroyed, including an ocean liner in the Dramatic Audio. Wormwood, however, disintegrates as it enters into the atmosphere, though it poisons a third of all fresh-water springs, causing death to those who drink its waters.
  • Giant Wall of Watery Doom: In the Dramatic Audio version, one of the Christians on board a cruise liner in the middle of the ocean barely has time to lead the people in a prayer of salvation before a giant wave of water caused from the impact of a giant mountain crashing into the seas (one of God's Trumpet Judgments) reaches the ship.
  • Give Me a Sign: The "seal of God" starts appearing on all believers' foreheads from this story onward. Rayford is disappointed to find out that this seal doesn't appear on Amanda's forehead after he finds her body and assumes the worst that he has believed of her, that she might be a mole working for the Global Community. It takes a confession from Hattie in the following story to set Rayford's mind at ease that Amanda wasn't.
  • Here We Go Again!: After Buck spent some chapters in the previous book trying to find his wife Chloe during the attack on Chicago in World War III, he has to go find his wife all over again when she ends up missing during the Wrath Of The Lamb earthquake.
  • Rain of Blood: The first Trumpet Judgment rains down fire and hail mixed with blood on the earth.
  • Say Your Prayers: The Christian on board the cruise liner stuck in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean with no power leads the crew in a final prayer of salvation just before the Giant Wall of Watery Doom hits it in the Dramatic Audio version.
