Game on. Kipo just won't give up hope when it comes to finding the good beneath the savagery. Can the Brunch Bunch flip the odds with flapjacks?

Tropes:

  • Big Damn Heroes: After Dr. Emelia wipes the floor with Wolf, Dave and Benson, Mandu shows up and single-hoofedly wipes the floor with her in turn.
  • Big "NO!": Wolf screams this after Emilia breaks Stalky.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: When Lio argues that Hugo's too far gone to be saved, Kipo argues that if Lio hadn’t been so quick to assume Hugo had turned for the worst, things would be different. Lio acknowledges his fault in the matter.
  • Can't Catch Up: Wolf might be a skilled fighter for her age, but Dr. Emilia is just as skilled, twice her height, and Wolf has no experience fighting another human (let alone one who's an adult). She holds out for a while but is soon taken down.
  • Complete-the-Quote Title: The episode’s title is based on the saying "All that glitters is not gold". This reflects how Scarlemagne is too set in his goals of becoming king of the mute world to humble himself for Kipo.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Scarlemagne pays back the Mod Frog trio by drowning them in molten gold and displaying their petrified corpses to Kipo as a gift. It's what makes her realize how depraved Scarlemagne has become.
  • Dead Guy on Display: To further punctuate his Join or Die ultimatum, Scarlemagne shows everyone the grim fates of the Mod Frogs that attacked Kipo. He also did it as a "gift" to her.
  • Delicious Distraction: Benson cooks pancakes so Dr. Emilia's troops will be distracted by the food, allowing Dave to sneak off and collapse the tunnel.
  • Hope Spot: Kipo convinces Scarlemagne to let the Mutes decide to follow him or not. Unfortunately, he uses a Join or Die approach.
  • Knew It All Along: When Wolf, Benson and Dave learned that Dr. Emilia is evil, Dave claims he told Benson he knew there was something he didn't like about her.
Benson: Dave! That did not happen. Stop lying.
  • Sadistic Choice: When Kipo persuades Scarlemagne to give the Mutes a choice whether or not to follow him, he does so... by issuing a Join or Die ultimatum. Upon seeing how upset Kipo is by this, he asks her to give him a chance to try again with her, offering to let the Mutes and humans go and give up on his dreams of becoming a king... in exchange for her killing her own father.
  • Taken for Granite: The Mod Frog Trio are encased in gold by Scarlemagne as punishment for attacking Kipo.
  • That Man Is Dead: Both Lio and Scarlemagne himself think this way about Hugo. In this episode Kipo tries to convince them this is not the case. It fails.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Benson opens his backpack in front of Dr. Emelia to get something, forgetting that the "Project Kipo" notebook was in there, alerting her to its existence and setting in motion her becoming the Big Bad in season 3.
  • Wrecked Weapon: After Dr. Emilia defeats Benson, Dave, and Wolf, she breaks Wolf’s staff Stalky out of spite.
