Recap / Kids Incorporated S 8 E 2 The Show

Go To

This episode sees Ana become the first of the established characters to be the focus of an episode, as she struggles to come up with ideas for a PTA show while running headlong into a battle with PTA director Mrs. Cooper (guest star Edie Adams; a longtime actress and singer best known for her marriage and frequent collaborations with her late husband, pioneering television comedian Ernie Kovacs).

We start off with a performance of "Music for the People" before the main plot begins, with Ana disclosing that she's been chosen as a student advisor to a Mrs. Cooper, the chair of the Parent-Teacher Association, for an upcoming PTA show; causing the others to pour in suggestions (Jared deciding to do an impression of Arnold Schwarzenegger; Kenny suggesting a new song; Nicole and Haylie suggesting a dance routine). Ana - after jokingly suggesting 5 or 6 solos for herself - begins worrying over how she'd be able to handle both performing and planning ("You Make Me Crazy").

During "You Make Me Crazy"; Mrs. Cooper walked into the P*lace to hear the ideas suggested. However, after hearing the suggestions - and Jared's Rodney Dangerfield impression - she then announces she's already made up her mind on a theme: The History of Mankind - thus freezing Ana out of the process immediately. The rehearsal begins with a scene where Kenny's character is inventing the wheel (Jared attempts to do his "Ahnold" impression before quickly scrapping it). Worse yet, Mrs. Cooper has (again without letting Ana know) invited several critics, further stressing Ana out while the others threaten to bail out and leave Ana holding the bag. Unknown to the others, Mrs. Cooper overheard the complaints and - fearing an apparent mutiny - decides to accept the kids' input after all ("We Haven't Finished Yet"). We then go to showtime, as the performance is done under the theme of "The History of Mankind's Music ("Vibeology").

The crowd, not surprisingly, loved the show (which allows Jared to do his Humphrey Bogart impression), but what about the PTA...and the critics? The kids are so anxious that they have yet to try a new dip Flip made; though as it turned out it was a hit with both the PTA and the critics, setting up closing song "Good for Me".
