Recap / I Carly S 01 Ep 21 I Might Switch Schools

Go To

iMight Switch Schools is the 21st episode of the 1st season of iCarly.

When Carly is offered a scholarship to the elite Briarwood Prep and considers going there, Sam and Freddie worry over losing her and plot to sabotage the interview so she doesn't have to leave.

Meanwhile, Spencer creates a miniature golf course which becomes a hit.

Tropes:

  • Enfant Terrible: One of the holes is called "The Crazed Toddler", which involves an evil baby doll trying to block the hole. Successfully sinking the ball will cause the baby to throw a tantrum and drool.
  • Groin Attack: One of Spencer's mini golf operations involves a long ramp leading up to a hole where a cardboard man's private area would be. If a player gets a hole in there, the mechanical cutout will groan in pain and cover its groin.
  • Imagine Spot: Carly has a dream of being in Briarwood, which involves getting massages while learning, $100 for a correct answer, and even enjoying mixed fruit while she’s at it. She suddenly has a nightmare where she sees Gibby replaced her on the show, which is now renamed iGibby.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Sam argues to Carly that what she and Freddie did to Ms. Peeloff wasn't that bad. The elevator door opens right then and there, showing a very ruffled and harassed Mrs. Peeloff complaining.
  • Jerkass Realization: Sam and Freddie soon realize that they went way overboard in trying to get Carly to not move from Seattle.
  • Share the Male Pain: Freddie’s reaction to the mini golf section involving the Groin Attack. He looks uncomfortable, and says "ow" in sympathy while holding his own crotch.
  • Toilet Humor: One of the holes is called "The Toilet Bowl Hole". Sinking a ball in it will cause the toilet to flush as a fanfare sounds.
  • Too Much Information: When Freddie is impersonating Spencer on the phone with Briarwood in order to move Carly's interview to her apartment, he is asked why. By Sam's suggestion, he replies that he sprained his buttocks. Later, when Carly's interviewee comes to the Shay apartment, she directly asks Spencer how his buttocks are. Spencer awkwardly says that they are good and firm, and naturally asks Carly aside why she would ask such a thing in a confused and worried tone.
  • Two Roads Before You: Spencer uses this analogy to help Carly decide between staying at Ridgeway or switching to Briarwood:
Spencer: Listen, I'm your older brother. So I will help you through this difficult decision. Just... just close your eyes.
Carly: Okay. (She closes her eyes).
Spencer: Okay. There's two roads in front of you. Road A, and... the-the... one on the left. (Pauses, then runs out of the room).
Carly: (Opens her eyes, then laughs) Thank you!
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Carly, once she figures out what Freddie and Sam have been doing, chews them out for sabotaging her interview with Briarwood.
  • With a Foot on the Bus: Carly almost thinks of leaving for Briarwood, but thanks to Sam and Freddie's meddling, she decides against it.
