Recap / Human Resources S02 E10 Yipee Ki-Hate, Motherf**ker

Go To

The Ministry of Hate crashes Human Resources' holiday party, threatening to spread nothing but hate across the world. Rochelle must decide whether to go along with this evil plan or ally with her former friends to save humanity.

Tropes:

  • Agony of the Feet: Gil steps on broken glass, thinking Bruce Willis was "impervious to glass" in his movie. It actually hurts his foot very much. He later gets whiny when Joe tries to pick the glass out of his foot.
Gil: Ah! I'm pervious! I'm very pervious!
  • Air-Vent Passageway: Joe and Gil are in the supply closet when the Ministry of Hate takes over, and decide to escape via air vent as part of the Die Hard reference.
  • Ass Shove: As part of the "Anal Day" festivities, Maurice shoves many objects up his butt to expel them at midnight as a kind of gift giving.
  • Chekhov's Gag: The joke about Maury shoving things up his butt to crap out at midnight turns out to be plot-relevant after all, as several of his contraband comes in handy as self-defense.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Pete's label maker tape gift from Emmy at the beginning plays a crucial role in helping Hope and Rochelle stop Malice during the climax.
  • "Die Hard" on an X: The episode is a Whole-Plot Reference to Die Hard, with the Ministry of Hate taking over the HR building during an Anal Day party and various characters trying to sneak around and seize control again. They all lampshade being the Bruce Willis of the situation.
  • Heel–Face Turn: In the end, Rochelle turns back into a Love Bug, helps save the day, and reconciles with her friends.
  • Running Gag: Characters repeatedly wonder if they're "the Bruce Willis" of the story, in the sense the plot is similar to Die Hard.
  • Sadistic Choice: Malice forces Montel to choose to shoot either their mentor Lionel or one of their parents, or else everyone in the office will die.
  • Unexpectedly Dark Episode: This is the only episode with universal stakes which are played almost totally seriously, this being the Hate Ministry's hostile takeover and plan to spread hate throughout the world.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Subverted. Gil and Joe think being stuck in the supply closet during the takeover means the writers want them to be the heroes of the episode. Despite this, they're as incompetent as ever, accidentally sending up a dead henchman's gun instead of keeping it for self-defense. Yet they still manage to bash through the window and save their coworkers from a Sadistic Choice hostage situation.
  • You Mean X Mas: The episode takes place on "Anal Day," a monster holiday that's similar to Christmas, but focuses on anal sex and has the presents shoved up people's asses.
