The symbol on the mirror probably isn't significant.

Cherish those who seek the truth but beware of those who find it.

On the heels of becoming a new father, Nick must make some major changes to keep his child and Adalind safe. Monroe and Rosalee step in to help prepare for the new addition.

Meanwhile, Capt. Renard assigns Hank a new partner as they investigate a brutal murder at an investment group.

This episode provides examples of:

  • The Alibi: Nick's alibi for Agent Chavez' disappearance is that he was in the hospital with Adalind, who was having their baby. Hopefully they don't look too closely at that alibi, because it doesn't exactly cover the time of Chavez' abduction, and he disappeared for a while in the middle.
  • Call-Back:
    • Nick tells the FBI his fight with Agent Chavez was about her still investigating him for Agent Weston's death, mentioning her questioning him in "Octopus Head".
    • Discussing the Black Claw symbol and what it could mean, the gang go over other Wesen symbols, including the Verrat interlocked swords and the Wolfsangel, which Monroe admits still gives him nightmares.
    • The Reaper symbol shown is the one that was drawn on Monroe's car after he was attacked in "Of Mouse And Man", indicating that Nick recorded that incident in the diaries.
  • Call-Forward: The killer's partner deletes the contents of the computers in their apartment, destroying evidence that could lead to Black Claw. The last thing seen (by the audience, not the characters) is a photo of Renard.
  • Cassandra Truth: Nick warns the U.S. Marshalls who take Paul Wemlinger away to be careful of their prisoner because he's more dangerous than he seems, they laugh him off. Right up until he tears their throats out.
  • Extraordinary World, Ordinary Problems: To a given definition of "ordinary." Turns out if you have a public argument with an FBI agent, and that FBI agent promptly vanishes, the FBI will think you probably had something to do with it.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The mobile Monroe sets up for baby Kelly has a wolf and a fox on it. The stuffed animals also include a wolf and a fox. Clearly, Monroe and Rosalee want Kelly to know them as family.
  • The Gadfly: When Nick makes Adalind a sandwich, she mentions that she's allergic to tomatoes. In reply, he shoves a large slice into his mouth. However, he does make sure her sandwich is clear.
  • Gratuitous Latin: The Black Claw's motto is apparently, "Occultatum Libera!" meaning roughly, "free the hidden."
  • Have You Told Anyone Else?: The Victim of the Week found evidence that money was being stolen from clients' accounts, and told one of his employees... who of course was the thief, and promptly kills him.
  • Irony: After everything she did to get her powers back, Adalind confesses to Rosalee that she wishes the suppression potion wouldn't wear off, because she wasn't very nice as a Hexenbiest and she's scared Nick will leave when her powers come back.
  • Let the Past Burn: Monroe suggests to Nick that it might be healthy to move to a new house, free of the painful memories his current one holds. At the end, a For Sale sign is seen outside the house.
    Nick: You mean like, move?
Monroe: I mean like, get the hell out.
  • Portmanteau: When Adalind is freaking out about Nick potentially leaving or dying, Adalind worries about what Kelly will turn out to be: "A, a Hexengrimm? Grimmenbiest?"
  • Shout-Out: The title references Clear and Present Danger.
  • Struggling Single Mother: Now that Kelly is born, Adalind is terrified that Nick will abandon them, or die on the job (cop or Grimm), and she'll be left alone with the baby. This fear sheds new light on her decision to name Kelly after his recently-murdered mother; it's a way of getting him to stay.
Adalind: No, Nick's been great. I wasn't expecting him to be great, so that makes it even greater.
Rosalee: He's not going to leave...
    Adalind: Not yet.
