Recap / Ghost In The Shell SACS 1 Episode 7

Go To

The Japanese government discovers that Jenoma revolutionary leader, Marcelo Jarti, has been visiting Japan on a regular basis. He has a supernatural ability to survive assassination attempts by the United States and United Kingdom.

Section 9 is called into investigate his visits and discovers that the Yakuza has been creating ghost-dubbing clones of Jarti to allow him to continue serving as a rallying cry for the Jenoma government. Section Nine decides to keep the secret of Jarti's survival in order to avoid upending the global situation.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Autobots, Rock Out!: The rock theme "Run Rabbit Junk" is heard when the Major battles the Bodyguard Babes.
  • Camping a Crapper: A hilariously accidental version when Batou encounters a Yakuza boss who is taking a leak, so he hauls him through the window.
  • Captain Ersatz: Jarti is meant to be one for Che Guevara.
  • Delivery Guy Infiltration: Played with when Kusanagi hacks a hotel maidbot to find out what's going on. This comes to an abrupt halt when the bot catches a stray bullet.
  • Designated Girl Fight: A rare version for this series when Kusanagi has to take on the Bodyguard Babes of the Yakuza boss. However once she takes care of them, a male Yakuza opens up on her with a submachine gun.
  • Dirty Communists: The Jenoma government and Jarti's guerillas are considered this by America but Section Nine considers them a Worthy Opponent.
  • Expendable Clone: Jarti has many of these in order to continue his national legend. Subverted in the real one is long dead.
  • Fanservice Extra: The two Bodyguard Babes for the yakuza boss wear some pretty Stripperific outfits, and one gives a flirty "Bang" when confronting Kusanagi.
  • Jurisdiction Friction: An unintentional example when the narcotics police arrive to arrest a Yakuza boss Jarti is meeting with, making things more complicated for Section 9 since they need to monitor Jarti, not have him arrested, which would certianly happen if he was caught with said boss.
  • Shout-Out: One of the Bodyguard Babes does a Spike-style Finger Gun at the Major before attacking her.
  • Super Window Jump: Averted as Kusanagi has her Tachikoma shoot out the glass before Fast-Roping through.
  • Yakuza: The Yakuza are the people providing Jarti with his clone bodies.
  • Your Terrorists Are Our Freedom Fighters: Jarti is hunted by Western anti-terrorist organisations, yet is a national hero, so much so that Section 9 doesn't inform the world that he's dead.
