Recap / Gargoyles The Goliath Chronicles A Bronx Tail

Go To

Lexington is investigating a trainyard with Bronx when they're attacked by a pair of policemen; upon the sunrise, Bronx is carried along in a cargo car while Lex is left behind. Ending up in Pennsylvania, Bronx finds himself in an Amish community where he befriends a young boy named Matthew, who longs to see what the rest of the world is like. Matthew learns that the gargoyle-beast came from Manhattan and plots to take him home, but a raid by anti-gargoyle zealots ends up with Bronx under an icy river. He's swiftly rescued by Goliath, and everyone returns home.

This episode contains the following tropes:
  • All-Loving Hero: He's nervous of Bronx's monstrous appearance at first, but once that wears off, Matthew's nothing but kind to him, offering him food and taking care of his wounds.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This is Bronx's episode of The Goliath Chronicles.
  • Excuse Plot: It's never really explained exactly why Lex and Bronx were even in the trainyard in the beginning, other than to have an reason for Bronx to be carried away and start the plot proper.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: Matthew's father Isaiah disapproves of him reading comic books and getting wild ideas of the world outside their humble community.
  • Jumped at the Call: Matthew was afraid to leave home on his own, but when it comes time to get Bronx home, he eagerly goes along.
  • Living Crashpad: Matthew lands atop Bronx after he trips over a rock, and they end up sledding down a hillside that way.
  • Never My Fault: The anti-gargoyle thug blames Bronx for crashing his truck, even though he was the one driving it quite recklessly.
  • The Runaway: Matthew first meets Bronx while running away from home, though he chickens out and turns right back around when he hears some wolf howls.
  • Savage Wolves: A pack of wolves attack Matthew in the woods, before Bronx saves him.
  • Super Not-Drowning Skills: Bronx spends quite a long time trapped under the ice, thrashing and kicking around, but he's perfectly fine by the time Goliath pulls him up.
