After evaluating the situation, Doujima agrees to have the Shokugeki between Koujirou vs. Soma and Megumi as an unofficial duel, with the other alumni as judges. As part of the conditions, Megumi must be the head chef.
This episode provides examples of:
- Bound and Gagged: Played for Laughs with Hinako. Since she was constantly bothering Shinomiya, he ordered to have her tied up and threatened to also gag her if she didn't shut up.
- Combat Commentator: Donato, Fuyumi and Sekimori are brought to both serve as judges and exposition for the viewers, along with Doujima and Hinako.
- Evolving Credits: The rotating dish in the opening changed. For the ending "Spice", the foodgasm reaction is from Hinako.
- Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: Megumi's hands shake uncontrollably during the Shokugeki in episode 11. Soma has her put her hands together, then slaps it with his own hands, helping to ease her stress so she could focus on cooking.
- Gut Feeling: All the Polar Star guys start to worry when they notice that Soma and Megumi are nowhere to be found. Later they hear the rumours of Megumi getting expelled and Soma challenging Koujirou Shinomiya to a Shokugeki and they pretty much guess that Soma has dragged Megumi into this.
- Helping Would Be Killstealing: Soma is told by Gin in episode 11's Shokugeki that Megumi has to prove her own abilities as a chef, or she'll simply fail a later test.
- I Am Not Left-Handed: Discussed by Gin, who wonders why Koujirou didn't prepare one of his special dishes in the unsanctioned Shokugeki against Soma and Megumi. Lampshaded by the other Legendary Alumni.Koujirou: "My opponents are just students. Did you think I'd be so merciless?"
Hitoshi: "He'd do it."
Donato: "He'd defeat them so easily that they can't ever cook again." - Nervous Wreck: Megumi gets frozen in fear when the Shokugeki starts.
- Real Men Wear Pink: For the Foodgasm sequence, while Fuyumi and Hinako have red and blue outfits, Doujima's is pink and immediately smashes the ground. In a pink dress.
- Shout-Out: The Foodgasm is basically a Sailor Moon parody, with Hinako, Fuyumi and Doujima transforming in Magical Girls, Donato turns into a Tuxedo Mask Captain Ersatz and Sekimori as the Ridiculously Cute Critter Mascot.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: It's clear that the other chefs, while still friends with Shinomiya, have no mercy when snarking at him or pointing out when he is being a jerk to Soma and Megumi.
