Recap / Family Guy S 16 E 18 HTT Pete

Go To

Peter embraces millennial culture, only to end up taking down the internet by accident.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Biting-the-Hand Humor: In the final scene, a fire spreads throughout the restaurant, but no one notices because they're focused on their devices. Rod Serling appears to comment on this, saying people are about to go up in smoke "like Fox's Tuesday night lineup."
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Peter shutting down the internet causes the world to plunge into complete chaos.
  • Political Overcorrectness:
    • Asking Hammer what a trigger warning is turns out to be one of his trigger warnings. The guy who asked him (genuinely not knowing what one is) gets fired as a result.
    • During the video about millennials, the announcer gets fired because he referred to a clearly female-looking character as a "she", even though it's then revealed that "she" identifies as a man (again, the guy genuinely didn't know this).
  • Take That!:
    • A lot of jabs at internet culture and millennials form the backbone of jokes in this episode, including (but not limited to):
      • People taking the internet so seriously that when it goes down, everyone acts like it's the apocalypse (with one guy getting called a psycho for not looking at his phone).
      • The frequent and intrusive adverts that pop up and won't go away.
      • The "Top X Things You Won't Believe"-style articles being little more than shameless attention grabs.
      • The sheer level of Political Overcorrectness that millennials operate on to the point that one guy gets fired for accidentally triggering someone by asking what a trigger warning is while the topic of trigger warnings is being discussed.
    • The taxi driver makes the Griffins watch "a disturbingly loud clip" of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, in which Fallon proudly declares he will make his audience lose respect for Al Pacino by making him play a children's game. Peter turns to the camera and says "This. This is why, Uber."
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Peter gets an earful from Parker and then Lois for shutting down the internet by urinating on the server—Lois even notes that while he's done a lot of stupid things over the years, this is easily the stupidest thing he's ever done.
