• Absurdly Youthful Father: Fiercely defied by Rochelle. She sees Drew get a bunch of valentines and instantly kicks into Mama Bear mode.
• Entitled Bastard: Tangee believes that she's entitled to a bunch of gifts for Valentine's Day about a day after she first met Chris on the bus, and cusses him out when she only gets a card.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: This wouldn't be the last "Joy" Cassidy Lehrman plays in her career..
• Humiliation Conga: Caruso and his crew keep harassing Chris with hateful, racist Valentine's Day cards. Hell, even Greg got an actual card! Later, he does get a genuine Valentine's Day card from Ms. Morello, but he instinctively rips it up before Ms. Morello herself witnesses him in the act. When he finally gives Tangee a Valentine's Day card, he comes up short (according to her) and gets cussed out in front of everybody on the bus. Then he supposedly gives his mother the card he meant to give Tangee, and realizes it's actually the card Greg meant to give to Joy.
• Hypocrite: Both Julius and Rochelle are fiercely protective of Tonya and Drew getting valentines, respectively. Drew gets a bunch of valentines from girls at his school and older women, which makes Rochelle paranoid that he's going to knock somebody up. Tonya gets one from James, a boy at her school, and Julius gets protective just because. Both don't see the others' paranoia as a big deal.
• Kick the Dog: Tangee freaking out on Chris publicly on the bus because he didn't get her a bunch of gifts along with the card.
• Morton's Fork: Chris' card would've backfired regardless as he actually picked up Greg's card to Joy.
• Ungrateful Bastard: Tangee's response to Chris getting her a Velntine's Day card not too long after they met is asking for candy, flowers, and more, and cussing him out when he doesn't have those things.
• Valentine's Day Episode
• Yank the Dog's Chain:
  • Chris gets a constant flow of racist, hateful Valentine's Day cards from Caruso and his goons. The one time he gets an actual card, he rips it up expecting it to be another card from Caruso before finding out that it's from Ms. Morello, who gave it to him in direct response to Caruso's bullying.
  • Chris actually gets somewhere romantically with Tangee and gets her a card for Valentine's Day. However, upon giving it to her, she expects more, and starts cussing him out on the bus.
  • A more lighthearted one in the ending. Chris gives the card he meant to give to Tangee to Rochelle, but it turns out to be Greg's card to Joy.
