Go To

A Smurf Players adaptation of the story of Queen Esther.

  • Smurfette plays Queen Esther as well as Vashti and Zeresh
  • Empath plays King Ahasuerus
  • Papa Smurf plays Mordechai
  • Brainy plays Haman

This play adaptation provides examples of:

  • Acting for Two: In-universe, Smurfette acts three different character parts: Vashti (the former queen), Esther (the new queen), and Zeresh (Haman's wife).
  • Adapted Out: Some characters in the original story were adapted out to focus primarily on Esther, Mordechai, the king, and Haman.
  • Adaptational Expansion: Mostly in the area of additional dialogue that was not part of the original story.
  • Jesus Taboo: Averted in this adaptation, as God is frequently mentioned by the characters in the play.
  • Killed Offscreen: Haman is taken off-stage, where he is "hanged" on his own gallows.
  • Musical Episode: Papa Smurf as Mordechai sings a song after Esther is taken to be the possible future queen.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Haman falls on top of Esther while pleading for her mercy, and ends up struggling with her, refusing to get off her unless she forgives him. The king returns into the room and thinks Haman is going to violate the queen in his presence. Haman tries to use this as his line of defense, but the king isn't buying it.
  • Toilet Seat Divorce: As in the original version of the story, King Ahasuerus divorces Vashti because she refused to appear in public to parade around her beauty before the king and his guests.
