Recap / Ed Edd N Eddy S 2 E 21 Ed In A Halfshell

Go To

The Eds have to take care of Jimmy while Sarah is away, to which Eddy attempts to mold him into a scammer like himself.

Tropes:

  • Bad Vibrations: Sarah's arrival is heralded by the shaking of trees, followed by her knocking down a section of fence.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Eddy succeeds in grooming Jimmy to a crafty moneymaker like him, but unfortunately, he not only proves to be more successful at scams than they ever were, but is also fully willing to play his own best friend Sarah to sic her on the Eds when Eddy tries to take his earnings for himself. It's lampshaded after Sarah leaves the Eds tied up and Jimmy leaves with Sarah to buy candy for themselves.
Edd: Boy, Eddy, you've truly created a monster.
  • Idiot Ball: Eddy tries to prevent him and his friends from getting beat up by Sarah by convincing herself to trust their word over Jimmy's, despite the fact that Sarah hates them and is best friends with Jimmy.
  • Just Whistle: Sarah gives Jimmy a whistle in case something happens, and she'll come to save him. Ironically, it was Ed who blew the whistle while pretending to be a referee, despite Edd and Eddy's warnings not to, inadvertently bringing Sarah's wrath upon them.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Ed was the one who, despite earlier warning Eddy about Jimmy blowing the whistle on them, ultimately lures Sarah to the fight between Jimmy and Eddy by blowing it himself, resulting in the ensuing Wounded Gazelle Gambit and its subsequent beating.
  • So Proud of You: Even though Jimmy sicced Sarah on them just because Eddy tried to take a cut of the money he earned, Eddy can't help but admit to his friends about feeling proud of who he molded Jimmy into.
  • Surpassed the Teacher: After Eddy teaches Jimmy to be just like him, Jimmy goes on to do what Eddy has never managed to do —successfully make money off a scam (in this case, to make a trampoline and charge the kids to play for 25 seconds each). Edd notes how the student has surpassed the teacher, but Eddy just wants Jimmy to give him his share of the money.
  • Touché: Twice, Jimmy manages to pull off a good comeback that leaves Eddy impressed. The first time, when Jimmy tells him to hit the road when trying to take a portion of his scam earnings, Eddy angrily shouts "If it wasn't for me, you'd be planting posies!" and Jimmy responds "Tell it to the judge!". Eddy says to himself "Oh. He's good." Then when Jimmy pulls off his Wounded Gazelle Gambit below and blows a raspberry at Eddy when Sarah isn't looking, Eddy mutters "Man, he's real good."
  • Trauma Button: Edd apparently experienced such severe bullying while playing dodgeball in the past that the mere threat of being hit with one causes him to devolve into a wailing ball of nerves.
  • Wedgie: Eddy repeatedly gives Jimmy these throughout the episode should he bother him.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: The moment Sarah arrives while Jimmy is fighting with Eddy over the money he earned, Jimmy quickly pushes himself off Eddy and grabs a handful of dirt that he smushes into his own face, putting on a pity play and claiming the Eds made him "eat dirt all day". It works, and Sarah promptly beats up the Eds in response.
