Season 2, Episode 6:

The Left Hand

Echo and Bennett have a shocking meeting as Adelle goes head-to-head with the ruthless head of the Washington, D.C. Dollhouse.

Tropes present in this episode:

  • Black-and-Gray Morality: While the L.A. Dollhouse staff are definitely morally dubious, the D.C. Dollhouse seems even more straightforwardly evil.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: Bennett to Echo, again. She even shuts down Echo's ability to pass out in order to make it worse.
  • Double-Meaning Title: 'The Left Hand' refers both to Bennett's left hand (which was damaged irreparably, and she blames Caroline for) and the proverbial phrase about the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing (two different Dollhouses working at cross purposes).
  • Groin Attack: Adelle appears to be attempting to subvert the D.C. Dollhouse head - when she grabs his sensitive bits, squeezes, and threatens to send someone to cut them off unless he agrees to her 'compromise'.
  • Heroic Seductress: Subverted. See Groin Attack.
  • Me's a Crowd: Topher forks himself into Victor (played impeccably by Enver Gjokaj) so he can have a presence at the L.A. and D.C. Dollhouses simultaneously.
  • Neck Snap: Senator Perrin does this to an unfortunate Dollhouse agent who doesn't know he's been reprogrammed with an assassin protocol.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike
Bennett: So, how do you work the Disruptor?
Topher: How'd you know it was called that?
Bennett: What else would you call it?
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Bennett smashes her head into a glass panel and claims that Echo did it in order to gain Topher's sympathy.
  • Xanatos Gambit: Successfully pulled off by Rossum. They managed to spin Perrin's wife's death into a story that Rossum was being targeted by a group of other corporations, and that the Dollhouse was a myth after all.
