Japanese Title: The Holy Swordsman, HolyAngemon

Although Piemon proves to be extremely resilient, WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon hold their own, and the other Chosen's Digimon evolve to assist them and attack at once. Before they can react, however, Piemon uses some white magical sheets to transform WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon — quickly followed by Taichi and Yamato — into keychains.

Far away, Kentarumon and Gennai inspect a mysterious “Wall of Fire” and discuss a prophecy that talks about something that has emerged from this wall...

Andromon pulls Piemon aside to fight with him in order to let the Chosen escape, and they find themselves in what looks like a large circus ring, requiring them to use trapeze swings to get across a large pit. Hikari, Takeru, Sora, Tailmon, Patamon, Piyomon, and Gomamon get across safely, but Piemon appears with an Andromon keychain and subjects Jou, Koushirou, and Tentomon to the same fate.

While Mimi and a large crowd of Digimon try to climb up a cliff, she wonders if she can find a Digimon who can fly while a shadow of a Digimon flies over her...

Angewomon and Garudamon get Sora, Takeru, Hikari, and Gomamon out of a close shave, but in doing so are turned into keychains by Piemon. Sora pulls Takeru aside and entrusts Hikari's safety to him, saying that since Angewomon and Garudamon were turned into keychains, he's the only one who can protect Hikari. When Piemon arrives, Gomamon manages to snatch the keychain of Yamato and gives it to Sora, who successfully throws it to Takeru before both are turned into keychains.

Takeru and Hikari find themselves at a dead end, but they find a rope in a basket that mysteriously leads upwards. Takeru helps Hikari up, but trouble comes when Piemon manages to follow them to where they're climbing. Patamon evolves to Angemon and attempts to stop Piemon, but Angemon struggles in the battle. Hikari becomes afraid, and while Takeru also begins to fear, he attempts to cover it up so that Hikari won't see him like that and thus become even more scared.

Piemon cuts off the bottom of the rope that Takeru and Hikari are climbing, and as they fall, Takeru looks at the keychain of Yamato and hears his voice telling him not to give up. Takeru resolves that he definitely won't give up and his Crest of Hope activates, super-evolving Angemon to HolyAngemon note , who uses his power to get the Chosen Children, their Digimon, and Andromon to normal. Piemon brings out his army of Evilmonnote , but Mimi arrives riding on Unimon, bringing Lilmon and all of her Digimon allies to take down the Evilmon.

The remaining Chosen's Digimon super-evolve and fight off Piemon, and HolyAngemon eventually finishes him off by opening the Heaven's Gatenote , which shoves evil beings into another dimension and buries them there. With a little help from WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon, they shove the Evilmon and Piemon into the gate, defeating the last Dark Master and restoring the last portion of Spiral Mountain to the Digital World.

The kids celebrate their victory over the Dark Masters, but Gennai appears to tell them that they still haven't defeated the real Big Bad; their real enemy is the one who caused the distortions of the Digital World to begin with. Taichi asks who it is, but before Koushirou can answer, the ground starts to shake...

Tropes

  • Best for Last: As with before when Angemon first evolved, HolyAngemon is incredibly powerful and gets the upper hand on Piedmon, who is not only a level higher but is also supposed to be an exceptionally powerful Ultimate.
  • The Cavalry: When Piedomon's army of Vilemon enters the field and looks ready to overwhelm the heroes, Mimi arrives in the nick of time alongside Unimon, Meramon, Frigimon, Ogremon and the Otamamons and Geckomons to help them fight off the bad guys.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Despite being two levels lower, Angemon puts up a remarkably good solo fight against Piedmon, actually knocking the former down in melee combat, blocking his swords twice, and surviving his attacks without devolving to a lower level.
  • Fate Worse than Death:
    • What Piedmon wanted to subject the Chosen Children and their Digimon to, by turning them into dolls.
    • The ultimate fate of Piedmon and his minions, trapped forever beyond the Gate of Destiny.
  • Heroic Sacrifice:
    • Andromon stays behind to fight Piedmon to buy the Chosen Children time to escape, fully knowing he couldn't possibly defeat him.
    • After Garudamon is turned into a doll, Sora chooses to stay behind and distract Piedmon, and Gomamon stays with her despite being unable to evolve after Jou was turned into a doll too earlier.
  • Horse of a Different Color: Mimi enters the fray riding Unimon like a, well, flying horse.
  • Mooks: Piedmon's Vilemon army — numerous, loyal, willing to Zerg Rush much stronger foes and cut down by the handful when battle is actually joined.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Evilmon and Vilemon don't leave much room to wonder about how friendly these sorts are.
  • The Worf Effect: WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon are the only Ultimate Digimon on the team and are also the first ones to be turned into dolls, quickly followed by Taichi and Yamato.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Why couldn't Angewomon harm Piedmon as easily as her male counterpart? Because she was still too weakened by her fight with LadyDevimon.
  • Zerg Rush: The Vilemon enter the battle in an unorganized mass charge towards the less numerous but individually much stronger heroes, attempting — and ultimately failing — to bring them down with sheer numbers.
