A raid leads the police to discover that the infamous stickup man "Pistol" Pete Doyle has been dead since 1997.

Related Tropes:

  • Alcoholic Parent: "Pistol" Pete Doyle.
  • Awful Wedded Life: Pete and his former wife, Jules Murphy, had this due to his alcoholism and frequent run-ins with the law.
  • Clear My Name: Pete is seen as responsible for a string of robberies. Until his disembodied arm was found and proved that he was Dead All Along.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Apparently, no one in this episode, from the police to even his ex-wife and mother of his son, can understand why Pete would want to turn his life around when they all have written him off as a troublemaker and a loser.
  • Finally Found the Body: More like "Found the Body Part". Pete's arm was being kept and his fingerprints were used to frame him for a string of robberies.
  • Flashback Effects: The flashbacks are filmed with a yellow filter.
  • Hate Sink: Officer Daniel O'Leary. He's a Dirty Cop who loves nothing more than to push Pete around, believing him to be nothing but a lowlife ex-con and an alcoholic. He is such a bastard, he has no qualms against giving Pete a hard time while working as a janitor at a restaurant by intentionally making a mess just to clean it less he wants to be fired or embarrassing him in front of his son. When setting Pete up to get sent back to prison fails, O'Leary ends up killing him instead, believing that no one would care to try and solve a "worthless" criminal's murder.
  • Reformed, but Rejected: Pete was determined to turn his life around but no one was buying it, not even his son.
  • Shed the Family Name: Pete's son, Petey, took his stepfather's name after his mother's remarriage and his father's own death.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: Ultimately subverted by Pete; whilst it looks like since virtually everyone thinks of him as nothing but a lowlife ex-con who will just wind up in prison on a new charge (this time for drug dealing), he stops himself at the last minute, citing his strong desire to be a better example for his teenage son.
