Recap / Code Lyoko S 1 E 19

Go To

At the beginning of the story, Jeremie is working on Aelita's materialization program in the middle of the night. He almost completes it, but in the last moment, it doesn't work. He starts checking to make sure that Aelita connected all the data correctly, and in the process starts an argument with her. He apologizes for yelling at her, but she severes the link.

In the morning, Yumi comes to school to find Jeremie in a very bad mood. After telling her, Ulrich, and Odd about his argument, he decided to go to Lyoko himself and apologize. He gives Yumi the notes, which is a humongous collection. Once inside, Ulrich and Odd bow and step aside, after Odd says in a British voice "Your scanner is waiting, sir." A problem occurs with the virtualization process, and Jeremie is stuck in the Virtual Limbo, basically inside the wires connecting the Lab's interface computer with the Supercomputer below.

Yumi, who is partially to blame for Jeremie's predicament, as she was controlling the Lab computer at the time, goes back to Kadic from the Factory to make sure the teachers don't get suspicious. Meanwhile, Ulrich is left in charge of the computer whilst Odd plays Tetris Annihilator on his Game Boy.

Ulrich informs Aelita of Jeremie's problem, and, ever anxious about him, she agrees to help. According to Jeremie's theories, if she collects enough data from four Towers in the four known Sectors of Lyoko, Jeremie will be able to come back to the Scanners. She can communicate with Jeremie due to the fact their minds have melded inside the digital world.

XANA sees the opportunity to trap one of the most important people in Team Lyoko forever in the Virtual Limbo. After Aelita recovers the data from the Desert, Ice Barrier, and Forest Sectors, he finally realizes the AI's pattern, and sends Blocks to guard all Mountains Towers. Ulrich wants to send Odd into Lyoko to aid Aelita, but cannot control the Supercomputer well enough to do so. Yumi, due to her absence during most of the day, is taken to Mr. Delmas's office by Jim, who caught her trying to get out of the school.

Ulrich returns to Kadic to try and help Yumi, but cannot talk to Mr. Delmas directly, so he tries going to Sissi, who sees the chance to get rid of Yumi forever. Even after Ulrich promises to date her for a month, Sissi refuses to talk to her father to get Yumi out of trouble. Only after Ulrich kisses her does she agree to get Yumi free of the teachers' wrath.

As soon as Aelita gets enough data, she is granted access to the Virtual Limbo. There, she touches Jeremie's fingers, thus bringing him back to the Factory. At that moment, their minds completely became one, allowing each the other to know their deepest feelings. Thus, they discover their love for one another, although they don't reveal this to one another just yet, even though Jeremie hints at it during a conversation between them at the end. Jim is watching from above, rather confused (going "Hmm?" in a stupid tone).

Meanwhile, Ulrich is on the phone with an angry Yumi, trying to explain the situation with Sissi. However, she's in full Tranquil Fury over it and furiously hangs up as Ulrich begs for her to let him talk.

This episode contains examples of:

  • And I Must Scream: Limbo. Being trapped between the virtual realm and Earth gives off this vibe.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Ulrich begs Sissi to help him and his friends, but she says he must date her for two months in exchange. Ulrich says "one month and a down payment", confusing her. He responds by giving her this and she easily agrees to help him out.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Ulrich saves Aelita from the Bloks in time to save Jeremie from deleting himself.
  • Big Word Shout: Jeremie yells "It was—It was... FANTASTIC!" after he wakes up.
  • Bland-Name Product: The gameboy has Tetrix Evolution, and looks identical to Tetris.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The Gameboy Ulrich and Odd tote around comes in handy when virtualizing Ulrich. Lucky for Odd, Ulrich wasn't intent on playing it afterward.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: For once, XANA isn't the central conflict of the episode; the main conflict is Jeremie being trapped between worlds.
  • I Can Explain: The final scene of the episode, being used by Ulrich with an angry Yumi during a phone call. When she realizes something happened between Ulrich and Sissi but he won't fess up, Yumi basically goes into Tranquil Fury as a desperate Ulrich attempts to explain (albeit without actually telling her what happened). He insists nothing is going on between him and Sissi, but she refuses to believe him and hangs up; leaving Ulrich still begging to be given the chance to explain.
  • I'll Kill You!: As Odd expresses shock that Ulrich kissed Sissi, Ulrich responds with "Tell Yumi and you're dead!" Not that it spared him from Yumi's wrath at the end.
  • Missing Mission Control: The story revolves around Jérémie disappearing after Yumi messes up his virtualization when he was trying to see Aelita. Yumi becomes Mission Control in the meantime.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Jeremie silently looks at the computer screen after Aelita logs off for the night when they have a fight.
  • Ship Tease: Aelita and Jeremie tease about Ulrich and Yumi in the ending scene. Aelita suggests Jeremie tells them how two people in love occasionally fight, to which he says he would much rather "stay out of that one".
  • Stock Footage: Yumi's argument with Ulrich at the end is recycled from "The Trap"; specifically the shot where she's in her bathroom without pants.
  • Third-Act Misunderstanding: Of a sort: Jeremie and Aelita believe the other is mad at them, and feel sorry for the events that caused it.
  • Void Between the Worlds: The entire conflict of the episode is Yumi accidentally making a mistake when transferring Jeremie to Lyoko, which causes Jeremie to get stuck in transit, and slowly becomes deleted by the computer. The only way to save him is to activate four towers with a specific code to save him from deletion.
  • The Unreveal: Since Jeremie never makes it to Lyoko, we never find out what he looks like as his 3D avatar. Even in the void, he retains his anime look, rather than being a 3D Model.
  • Wham Shot: Ulrich kissing Sissi, (even if it was to bail Yumi out of trouble for the sake of saving Jeremie). Nobody saw that coming.
