- Internal Reveal: Lelouch reveals his indetity, past, and Geass to the Black Knights after the rest of the Paladins calm him down.
- Irony: Jeremiah bemoans how despite his loyalty to Marianne, he's unable to protect Nunnally, as he was not assigned to the group tasked to guard her on the Avalon. Then he's apparently killed by the Black Lion, which is piloted by Lelouch.
- Leeroy Jenkins: Lelouch immediately moves to charge in to rescue Nunnally, even though this is obviously a trap. The Paladins stop him before he can even leave the room.
- Love Makes You Dumb: For all his strategic skill, Lelouch is perfectly willing to pull a Leeroy Jenkins if Nunnally is in danger. Fortunately, the rest of the Paladins talk him out of this.
- Parental Substitute: It's pretty clear that Lelouch views Sayoko as one - after he talks with her about the knife he entrusted to her, to pulls her into a hug and thanks her for looking after Nunnally and himself.
- The Reveal: A conversation between Sayoko and Lelouch reveals the origins of the knife he entrusted her with - it belonged to his mother, but was apparently lost some time after her death. Lelouch won it off a noble in a chess match and felt a strange connection to it, only later learning his mom had owned it while reading a note he found attached to the sheath. Said note specifies that Marianne's father was a firefighter (as was the case with Keith's father in Legendary Defender) and that he died trying to rescue a little girl from a fire.
- Troll: What does C.C. do after revealing her powers to the Black Knights? Ask if any of them want to form contracts with her.
- Xanatos Gambit: Scheneizel notes that even if Voltron manages to rescue Nunnally, it will confirm that Lelouch is one of the Paladins. He has no idea that Charles already knows this via Marianne's connection to C.C.
