3XK turns back up via Ryan's gun.
- Call-Back: Castle is struggling with the fact that 3XK got away on his watch, and Martha has to remind him that, cop or not, his "play acting" once saved New York.
- Due to the Dead: Ryan makes a toast.Ryan: I'd like to make a toast. To sacrifice. To bravery and commitment. To Jane.
- The Ghost: Jerry Tyson doesn't actually show up in this episode. He just gave Ryan's gun to an old enemy to get the 12th to target him.
- Hidden Depths: Ryan reveals he used to work narcotics and he's willing to throw a fellow cop into the wall for sending an innocent girl undercover by planting drugs in her car and coercing her to gather intel.
- It's Personal: 3XK took Ryan's gun and Ryan is taking it personally.Ryan: That weapon was issued to me by the city of New York, I let it out of my hand and now a girl is dead so please do not tell me it's not my fault.
- Jerkass Has a Point: Iron Gates hasn't earned our love yet, but she's right. Ryan needs to back the fuck off.
- My Greatest Failure: Ryan lost his gun to 3XK and he spends this episode barely keeping it together.Castle: You okay?
Ryan: Will be when Jerry Tyson's in cuffs.
Ryan: You killed that girl, you used my weapon to do it and now I carry that weight. Trust me when I say to you I will not rest until you carry it, too.- Ryan also once let every member of a meth gang know that a girl named Alicia was the tip that got them taken down.
- Star-Crossed Lovers: Ben and Jane were in love. Unfortunately, the scion of a Tong can't fall in love with a guailo. Castle even lampshades it as Romeo and Juliet.
- You Called Me "X"; It Must Be Serious: Castle calls Ryan by his first name, Kevin, possibly for the first time in the series.
