After their latest adventure, David accidentally sails down river and has to make it back to camp.
Tropes
- Androcles' Lion: David heals the wolf even though she nearly killed him. In return, she saves him from a rampaging mother bear at the cost of her own life.
- Bait-and-Switch: After falling down into the ravine, David raises a rock to smash the wolf's head in. We see him bring down the rock and cry, implying that the wolf is dead. Instead, we see David was helping heal the wolf over the next few days.
- Bamboo Technology: While in the wild David built a whole cabin, a stove, a dog house, an outhouse, and a well with a keg attached. He later makes a modern camping backpack out of foliage.
- Bittersweet Ending: David makes it back to the camp but it’s clear that he’s been negatively effected by his experiences.
- Call-Back: Ered and Nerris are being friendly to each other, a nod back to "Ered Loses Her Cool".
- Due to the Dead: Even though camp is within sight, David decides to bury the wolf and put up a cairn for her before heading home.
- The Greatest Story Never Told: David comes back to camp at night and is all shaved and cleaned up by the next morning, not telling anyone about what happened while he was gone.
- Mood Whiplash: Subverted. The scene of David finally reaching camp and falling into bed instantly jumps to him back to his cheerful self in the morning but it quickly becomes clear he's just putting on an act to cope with everything that happened.
- Noodle Incident: Whatever adventure the campers experienced at the start, we only vaguely learn about. What is revealed is that the Wood Scouts apparently attacked them with a blimp filled with gas from Jermy, kidnapped Space Kid, Max did something to distract them and Nerris shot them down with a flaming arrow.
- Time-Passage Beard: David grows a small beard while tending to the wolf, revealing several days have passed.
